Born in Atlanta, Raised in Decatur, GA. emerges one of the newest and hottest hip hop sensations preparing to set fire to the radio air waves. The streets have been patiently waiting for Q.D.G.s first major debut release for a while now. Without any mix tapes or videos, it’s amazing to see he has a very strong fan base from GA to the UK. He states, "I make music for my people. I love to do what I do and I have fun doing it. I give the people what they want to hear and put on the shows that they want to see.
When you think about the Southern hip hop scene today, popular trend-setting artist such as Gucci Mane, The Rich Kids, Soulja Boy, and OJ The Juice Man instantly come to mind along with a list of one hit wonders. Unfortunately, some critics say "The South is killing hip hop." However, Q.D.G. prefers to say "The South is dominating hip hop." He says, "I'll admit, there a lot of talentless artist breaking through with some hot songs but I don’t see anything more than mix tape artist. I don’t even drop mix tapes, just independent albums. I don’t need a DJ to host a mix tape for me to make me hot. I’m all about making a name for myself and you can’t deny true talent."
Q.D.G. started off playing the trumpet in elementary school and later picked up the baritone as a freshman in high school. "I've always had a strong passion for music since I was a toddler," he says. “All of my aunts and uncles on my mother’s side of the family could either sing or play an instrument. It’s in my soul. I like to look at it as therapy because it really helps me release a lot of that unnecessary tension that can make you nut up on somebody. Plus it keeps me out of trouble."
With his newest street single "Ask Em What They Call Me," featured on DJ Cristlyles Hood Hitz Mix tape, creating a buzz its clear to see Q.D.G. can compete with the major artist out today. Though he makes it look appealing to the naked eye, it’s been a long and rugged road traveled on his quest to success. He says, "This business is crazy. It’s funny how you can work hard your entire life and never make it beyond a local base. I’ve seen people shine during the brief moments of fame only to find themselves back to where they began and sometimes even worse than before."
"No one took me under their wings coming up. Everything I got came from grinding my ass off. It’s funny how people will act as if they don’t notice you until there is money involved...problem solved," he says with a smile on his face. "I love my fans, I get a lot of love from the females and I appreciate it so I keep it in mind when I write my records now."
The life of a local celebrity wasn’t good enough for the hood proclaimed hip hop veteran. With two years after his last release, "Days of Shade" featuring his highly influential songs "Lonely Face," Q.D.G. hit the streets with "She’s So Jazzy" which created a street buzz he didn’t expect. "I had so many people showing me love for that record...you make music for the women and you won’t go wrong. You may attract a few haters but you’re going to get all the support you need."
Q.D.G. is currently working on his 5th independent solo project which is expected to be released in mid 2010 featuring his hit single "She’s So Jazzy." He’s also working on the Grind Mind Compilation CD featuring new upcoming artists Young Marlee, Grip, King Bred, Yo Chris and more.
