Bio
The Dean's List is an eclectic trio of musicians whose versatile sound appeals to fans indie music to electronic to hip-hop. Comprised of MC/songwriter Sonny Shotz, producer and manager Alexander Mendoza, and producer/engineer Mik Beats, the group arrived on the scene in late 2010 with the release of their debut mixtape "Undeclared." Following the critical acclaim of the first project, The Dean's List found commercial exposure with their follow up release, "The Drive In," which appeared in early 2011. The mixtape blended elements of hip-hop, techno, house, rock, pop and classical influences, resulting in a sonically conscious album that made their legions of new fans dance and think. In April of 2012, The Dean's List will release their next official project "Generation X" with aveNUE Music Partnerships. The album showcases the growth of the group beyond the college audience, demonstrating a genre bending appreciation for music that can't be classified as anything but enjoyable. Mixing a combination of socially conscious lyrics and high-energy production, the 17-track compilation will speak to fans of pop, indie rock, hip-hop, techno and country due to the diverse inspirations of the three band members. Often labeled as Indie Pop, The Dean's List make their music for an advanced audience that doesn't identify themselves with anything besides quality songs. The lead single off of the upcoming project will be "YOUTH," a modernly rebellious anthem that expels the trials of growing older over complexly upbeat production. The track will be followed by a series of singles including the airy "Take Shape" and the confidence filled "Sex." The group has spent the past year touring extensively in support of "The Drive In," which is highlighted by the breakout singles "Dear Professor," which samples The Band Perry's smash hit "If I Die Young," "La Vie" and "Burn It All". The Dean's List shot stylized videos to accompany each track, matching their production and lyricism with visual artistry that helped bring their stories to life. Their energetic live show brought The Dean's List to the attention of new audiences across the country. With plans to debut a clothing line in the coming months, The Dean's List is more of a movement than a band, focusing on quality artistic product in any endeavor they undertake. With noticeable influences from artists like Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Kanye West, Jay-Z, Skrillex, Florence & The Machine, and various classical composers such as Vivaldi, and Beethoven. "Generation X" represents the next step in the evolution of this promising musical trio. For more information please visit: www.itsthedeanlist.com. -
