In a few hours we will be in the United States for the 11th edition of the International Drag King Community Extravaganza (IDKE XI). We are honoured to participate for the second time to the most important “Gender Exploration” festival in the world. We will be presenting an overview of our aesthetic research carried out in this year in Performance Art and Video Art: Human Installations and a Video Art Installation will be offered at the Art & Film Festival plus “The Jeweller” that will be performed at the Showcase.

Da Giovedì 22 gennaio a Lunedì 26 parteciperò insieme a Kyrahm alla mostra d'arte contemporanea "Il filo d'Arianna" indicata su "Arte Fiera" tra gli eventi degni di nota. La nostra performance "Accudirsi" prenderà vita nella camera da letto della Torre Prendiparte di Bologna, la seconda torre più alta della città. La nostra installazione umana sarà ripetuta a ciclo continuo per i visitatori dell'evento che saliranno le scale per raggiungere il loco remoto della stanza. "Quella offerta è una mostra tutta al femminile, dove il filo – che si snoda e lega le singole Arianne – è l’Arte: fil rouge che guida dentro il labirinto delle emozioni e ne fa uscire più complessi, più articolati, più ricchi emotivamente. Come Teseo, grazie a un atto d’amore (il filo d’Arianna), si è liberato dalla propria bestialità terrena (il Minotauro) e dalla prigione (il Labirinto), così grazie all’Arte i visitatori affronteranno, vivendole, le proprie emozioni, districandosi in quel groviglio di sentimenti che la società contemporanea tende ad imprigionare e omologare"

Who are Drag Kings?

“We are born women, we transform our bodies by becoming drag kings, and as a form of artistic expression, we take possession of the rules which determine masculinity, we put all of this on the stage, we interpret it, we express it”. Drag kings are prevalently female bodied or identified performance artists, who dress in masculine "drag" as part of their performance routine and play men’s characters. A drag king performance involves the use of different “languages” of expression, and in this way it becomes a political expression, because it questions the elements and principles on which the social values are built: “In our performances we want to deconstruct the gender, mix it up, and blur its boundaries, in order to demonstrate what gender really is: undefined. The gender is what you want it to be”..

Chi sono i Drag King?

Il fenomeno Drag King in Italia è ancora poco diffuso a differenza di altri Paesi, dove a cominciare dagli anni ’90 si è sviluppata la sperimentazione dei generi facendo di questo una forma di spettacolo oltre che un linguaggio e una pratica politica. Si parte da un corpo biologicamente femminile per intraprendere un viaggio tra i generi senza più rispettare i confini che ci definiscono in quanto uomini o donne. Tutto questo implica uno spostamento dei parametri sui quali poggiano le codificazioni sociali. Siamo dunque nate femmine, trasformiamo il nostro corpo diventando drag king e come forma di espressione artistica ci appropriamo delle regole che determinano la maschilità, la mettiamo in scena, la interpretiamo, la esprimiamo. Attraverso le nostre performance, vogliamo decostruire i generi, mescolarli, confondendone i confini per mostrare ciò che realmente i generi sono: indefiniti. Il genere è quello che tu vuoi che sia.
