On October 14, 2008 – I became the 4th Puerto Rican from New York to publish a memoir with a major publishing house – Simon & Schuster.
Piri Thomas was the first with, “Down These Mean Streets.” Edward Rivera was second with, “Family Installments: Memories of Growing up Hispanic,” and Esmeralda Santiago was the third with, “When I Was Puerto Rican.”
I take my role as Puerto Rican writer extremely seriously and I will remain dedicated to continuing to write books that educate us about our histories.
My second book is co-authored with Luis “DJ Disco Wiz” Cedeno and will be released by powerHouse Book in June 2009. It’s titled, “It’s Just Begun: The Epic Journey of DJ Disco Wiz, Hip Hop’s First Latino DJ.” I’m proud to say it’s one of the greatest survival stories you will ever read.
I’ve also co-founded the “What Is Your Next Stop?” campaign with my partner, Actress April Lee Hernandez of “Freedom Writers” fame. Together we’ve made it our mission in life to go into communities across the United States to try to educate and awaken the minds of the youth. We speak about death so they can appreciate life.

My second book was co-authored with Luis "DJ Disco Wiz" Cedeno... This book is the memoir of DJ Disco Wiz, Hip Hop's First Latino DJ. It is also a story about struggle and survival against all odds. Pick it up now or come see us in June when the book changes the way people view the streets of the Bronx, Hip Hop Music and the prison system. This is an educational tale for the real.
Who I'd like to meet: Anyone interested in making a positive change in 2007. We need to stop the violence in our communities & save our youth!

Boricuas writing their own history. That's what this period in history will be known as. Everytime a poet writes a stanza, everytime an author writes a chapter, everytime a comic tells a joke about growing up in an hispanic home, everytime a photographer documents an event, everytime we tell our story we are writing our own history.
