Interests

  • General

Music, Australian literature (especially 19th century poetry and prose fiction), sailing, recording (I own a Yamaha 24-track digital machine).
  • Music

Early 20th century 'jug' band stuff; semi-acoustic modern 'songwriter' stuff (everything from acoustic rock to contemporary balladeering); classic R&B (from the late 1940s crossover to rock era, through to present-day riff-based guitar bands); more (as I think of it).
  • Movies

Science fiction - I'm a sucker for special effects on the big screen.
  • Television

    Not my favourite machine.
  • Books

Nearly everything that isn't obviously created using a formula - I tend to wait for the smoke to clear before I'll read anything on the best seller list. My preference is non-fiction (alternative science, new takes on history, eg).
  • Heroes

Bob Dylan; Bonzo Dog Doodah Band; many more (as I think of them).

About me:

Izzy Foreal is my stage name. Until recently I was the bass player & shared lead vocals with semi-acoustic band 'Paspalum'. That band released an album titled 'Sticky Grass Pudding', which I recorded on my 24-track digital Yamaha machine.

Until recently I also played bass with The Bob Dylan Songbook Band and played bass on Dave Cavanagh's new album (see bulletin & blog for updates).

I was also until recently bassist of choice for The Hillbilly Blues Bandits, and performed with Gabi Bliss. I'm also looking for musicians for the band version of my 21st-century skiffle project, Izzy Foreal & Associates, as well as rehearsing up a 60s band called The Yesterbeats.

Since moving to Ulmarra near Grafton, I have begun a Friday night residency at the Emporium Cafe in South Grafton, and am also the Entertainment Director of the Ulmarra Entertainment Centre (Wide River Cafe).

I have a long history in Australia as an entertainer - more, perhaps, on that as this space developes. (eg: I'm also bass-player and frontperson with Australian comedy-rock outfit The Zarsoff Brothers, and played with comedy-rock outfit The 69ERS throughout the 1970s).

I can't post any of my own music on the MySpace site, as my record label, Browneye Gramophonics, isn't authorised as part of the deal signed by MySpace with a major record company congomerate ..

Who I'd like to meet:

Like-minded musicians and punters who are into the bizarre musical world that 'Paspalum' and 'The Zarsoff Brothers' inhabit.
