In the early eighties during the civil war in El Salvador, J6's (Jonnie) father immigrated to the United States in hopes of giving his family a chance to live in peace and have a bright future to look forward to. In 1986 the young boy and the rest of his family arrived in the United States. After living in Southern California for 12 years Jonnie and his family moved to Northern California where he now resides. It wasn't until the age of 18 that he first was introduced to the world of music. " I never really had an interest in music besides listening to whatever my parents had on the radio while driving from one place to another. I was always interested in art, but this was one art form I didn't really know I would be interested in. My family and I bought my youngest brother a drum set and it wasn't long after that that I bought myself a bass guitar just to mess around." His roots in music were punk rock and other forms of rock. As time went on he began to expand his musical tastes and years after his start in music, urban music became an interesting territory he had not yet experienced. "People that knew me back at that time would never have imagined that I would ever be involved in urban music. I was mostly into metal and played with bands that are far from what rap and reggaeton sound like. It was just such an extreme change that I couldn't help but to experiment in it. My friend D1 is probably the one who really introduced me to reggaeton. I'm almost pretty sure that he's the one who actually called me J6 too(formed from Jonnie Garcia's initials.JG, the letter "G" looks like a number "6" when he writes it out, hence the name J6)" After a few years of making rap and reggaeton beats for fun, J6 and his wife Marysa began eMEGe Records. Nearly four years after his beginnings in urban music, J6 makes his debut as a performing artist.
The triple threat producer, eMEGe Records label owner and now artist brings forth his first production as a solo reggaeton/rap artist. The album "El Reino" blazes from beginning to end. The opening track "Dale Fuego" lives up to its name while "El Party" featuring Jabez of eMEGe Records is sure to become the party anthem for fans of reggaeton. Tracks like "Tiburones" keep you dancing while "Me Haces Falta" and "El Agua Y La Llama" show a very vulnerable side of the music. You will find a deep message throughout the album that is rooted in his faith. "I really owe everything I am to Christ because he has given me a great life and I want to share that with others. You can't separate my music from that." J6's debut is sure to turn heads. It is a must have for fans of reggaeton and latin rap. Be sure to check out the cd "El Reino"!!!
