J'AR (pronounced jay-arr-uh) is comprised of 3 beautiful and talented young ladies: Jay aka J-KnockaRocka a wardrobe stylist who calls many places home, now residing in New York; Autumn aka A-KnockaRocka from Southern California; and Res aka R-KnockaRocka an established singer hailing from Philly now residing in Los Angeles, CA. The group formed when three friends hung out, while discussing the state of hip-hop and the lack of female emcee influence in the music industry. As the conversation got more involved they began to freestyle in their friends home music studio. After comprising 10 songs mix tape style, the group began to pass their mix tape to friends and colleagues in the entertainment industry. Soon music directors, producers and fellow musicians were reciting lyrics to the songs. Almost overnight the buzz turned into a roar and the three women decided to make the group official.
The natural electricity among the group creates an immediate party atmosphere. Cindy Lauper was right; girls do just wanna have fun. And J'AR proves this, Hip-hop style. It has been said that the group in reminiscent of JJ Fad, Salt n' Pepa or even the girl version of the early years of Tribe Called Quest. However, the group definitely has a style of their own. With their catchy hooks and clever rhymes, these 3 women can hold their own in the male dominated industry we know as Hip-hop/rap. Remember: this is only the beginning... to be continued...
