The band started from what was originally a writing project in July 2005 after DAVE SPICER and DAN SALTER had an impromptu jam at a party. Realising there was a strong creative chemistry ,they set about writing and very soon had some strong tunes developing. DAN had been MC with the DIBDUB SOUNDSYSTEM and after an initially tenuous meeting with them it was decided to create DIBDUB LIVE as an experimental project , just to see how people would respond . After 1 year of writing and honing the new songs DIBDUB LIVE was launched at the CAVERN EXETER. It took a few more gigs at the CAVERN to establish but it quickly became clear that this was gonna work ! Gigs at the PHEONIX ART CENTRE and the LEMON GROVE soon followed
and then festivals such as THE GLADE, BEAUTIFUL DAYS and AEON . So by the end of the summer of 2007 it was time to re-evaluate . They had recorded two tunes in LONDON with legendary groove drummer RICHIE STEVENS and GABRIELLE / JOSS STONE keyboard player/ producer/,writer JONATHAN SHORTEN ie RED and MEXICO ( we have to credit JONATHAN SHORTEN with writing credits on MEXICO as his contribution to the song was breathtaking and utterly brilliant, RICHIE ( DUBVERSIVE) STEVENS was also stunning and is credited as co=producer on both songs apart from his superb playing ) It was then decided that it had gone as far as it could with the DIBDUB organisation so that was the time to unleash JABBROCK (band name inspired by PHIL ROSE r i p ) So back in the studio to write more songs and to hone existing ones . Enter CALLUM VELLACOTT and MARNIE . CALLUM quickly established himself as completely invaluable to the project with his many faceted approach and unmistakable talent, particularly lyrically. MARNIE showed what a superb voice she has and has provided the songs she appears on with intense beauty and passion . JABBROCK played their first gig headlining the recent NEW DEVON ARMY promotion BASH THE EGG at the PHEONIX in EXETER pix of which can be viewed on the MYSPACE page KATIE MARIE appeared with the band as a backing singer. JESSE MOLINS plays guitar on FASTERDUB , three other tunes can be heard on the DIBDUB MYSPACE page ie DUB LAMENT , MEXICO (early version) and RED (early version)
A new person... who's this then?! Yeah, I could do with a cracking year to the get bad taste of the last one out of my mouth - it wasn't good in general except for about 3 months from June-August, could really do with something good coming from achieving this award, though with it I did win a day with the Press Associations chief entertainment photographer, which could prove very fruitful indeed, so we shall see... I know Dan's done something to him shoulder, you got any gigs in the pipeline? Nice hearing from you, as always :-) Roxi x
