In 2001, women’s shoe salesman Jackson Doyle left New Smyrna Beach, Florida and headed for Dallas with the dream of creating music. He found work playing bass guitar, the only problem, he didn’t know how to play. The self-taught performer quickly discovered a natural talent and spent six years playing with several national acts. In early 2007, the alternative rock band he had dedicated himself to fell apart, leaving Doyle (the only member with a credit score over 400) with thousands of dollars of debt. He spent almost two years working seven days a week to recover, finding the only solace and peace left in his life during the late evenings spent writing. At the bottom, the only direction to go is up. Jackson took a chance, followed his heart, and alone created something truly exceptional.
And we are thankful that he did. Jackson, full of drive and motivation when times seemed hardest, reinvented himself from a rock bass player to a country music singer/ songwriter. The result is astonishing. He plays a mix of classic and modern country and draws from influences including Steve Earle, Don Williams and Tom Petty. Drawing from his roots in gospel and alternative rock, Jackson’s songs are catchy, harmonic, and distinctively unique.
“Lonesome Radio” is an album of completely original music. The sound is incredible, the composition and melodies phenomenal, and Doyle’s voice is uniquely reminiscent of the country all-stars from the 1970s. Though not lyrically deep, overly layered, or extremely complex, this album brings back the classic country clichés, charming melodies, and foot-tapping hooks that seemed to be lost decades ago. The songs are of people and experiences, love and loss, success and failure, lying somewhere between the lines of fact and fiction.
Jack County’s first album is just a taste of the creativity and ability that began inside a shoe salesman from Florida. Like Tom Petty sings, "He’s a self made man. He did it on his own.” And for Jackson Doyle, that's not a bad thing.
I'm making my usual stop in here to listen to the great tunes. Things are going good out here on the west coast. We're considering a Texas run sometime in the spring. See ya at the bar....
