The Jack Fris Radio choir is a duo, except when there are more of them. Despite the public's general lack of curiosity surrounding the name, Fris responds, "I tried to avoid going the smart alecky name route , but all the more traditional 'The' names, I'd come up with were already taken, like The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, etc." Jack's uplifting,values-based songwriting and mucus popping vocal style have attracted a bitter cult following of friends and family in Los Angeles since the Radio Choir's first shows in the summer of 2006 ( the much discussed "Summer Of Whatevers"). Jack counts the Ramones and Merle Haggard as major influences, but his audience hears more diverse sources including "Tom Carvelle", "a million other bands",and" that guy who hangs around the bus station with the tracheotomy?".
Jack grew up in a suburb of Albany, New York, but mythologized his past, sometimes insisting he was from a different village nearby with a similar income bracket.
Speaking of his songwriting process, Fris is cagey: "I just kind of listen to the air, and see what comes in. Especially if a radio is on nearby with an oldies station playing a song the millions have enjoyed for years. That can be helpful."
Jack made a pilot for Fox with Artificial Intelligence (directed by Chris Guest) that Andy Warhol called "tedious."
Scientists at LACC, using what looked like rock cocaine, but they insisted was Carbon 14 analysis, said their best guestimate is that Jack Fris is "old as fuck."
Sean Hecht, who would be the world’s only electric mountain dulcimer virtuoso if he were a virtuoso, is the sole member of the Radio Choir. He plays other instruments, such as cello and keyboards, when the three-stringed dulcimer proves too overpowering or conventional.
Here's some new videos from our last 2 shows (thanks, Katie!) (plus see Breakfast in a Bar with added bonus Jim Lang!)
Once again I have a favour to ask of everyone out there in the MySpace world, and I’m sorry because I know these things can get a bit annoying, but every vote counts, and I am happy to return the favour if you need me to vote or rate anything of yours, so… if you get the chance could you please rate my new song “Million Miles Away” on Triple J Unearthed?
Hey, I've got a new acoustic demo up of my song "Snapshot Chronicles" up now. Feel free to listen, comment, and if you like it tell your friends. If not, that's cool too.
Katie, didn't know you shot video there. But there was a professional videographic team that shot 2 songs from each band. They're still working on the product - no idea when it will be out.
