Imagine the classic sound of Patsy Cline, the lush velvet tones of Karen Carpenter and the Celtic undertones of Eddi Reader, then you’re getting pretty close to the sound of Scottish singer Jackie Storrar.
Growing up in the Ancient Kingdom of Fife, Jackie was surrounded by music. She studied piano & oboe and eventually taught herself guitar. It was during an acoustic session on a local radio station that her career path was to take a new direction. The Programme Director thought she also had a beautiful speaking voice and offered her a show of her own.
Eight years later she moved to Malta in 1994, living the double life of a musician and radio presenter.
Ultimately, she was responsible for hosting the prestigious breakfast show on Island Sound Radio but after years of sleep deprivation, she decided to return to the UK and the life of a freelance musician.
Her work today covers radio, live performance, song writing and studio production, as well as running her own record label Parrothouse Records UK, as a team with husband Steve Thiebault.
Their most recent success was in 2008 when their song “Take A Ride” was chosen as the official theme tune for an American radio show called “The Nightride”.
In 2007 their cover of Motorhead’s signature tune “Ace Of Spades” gave Jackie her first No1 in the UK Country Charts with 3 more Top 10 hits to follow “Torn Between Two Lovers”, “Don’t Leave Me, Just Squeeze Me” & “She’s All Cried Out”, all taken from her much-acclaimed CD “Cross The Border”.
A nomination for “Best Female” Artist at the BCMA’s followed in 2008 and Jackie’s latest single “Caledonia” has a pending nomination for ”Best Single” at this year’s Awards.
As well as writing for her next album, Jackie currently hosts her own show “The Country Café” on CMR Nashville and has a following of around 60,000 listeners each week.
“…Our interview and your United States debut went phenomenally well. The feedback was nothing less than impressive. Since our interview your songs have been requested like crazy. Last night I played 3 of your songs BY REQUEST. Now that’s noteworthy! One might expect that of a George Jones song or a Dolly Parton song. But a newcomer? That’s EXTRAORDINARY”
Bruce Hodges (Blueridge Country 98fm USA)
“It’s the original music that Jackie wrote that really makes this album stand out. She’s All Cried Out is such a strong Country song, it would do Reba proud!”
Country Music and Dance Magazine (Scotland)
Jackie returns with a new self-penned track called She’s All Cried Out. It’s another from Jackie’s fantastic album Cross The Border. The album scores ten out of ten in every respect for me: the quality of the song writing, Jackie’s vocal performance, the arrangements and the production.
Allan Watkiss (UK Country Radio.com)
“Jackie’s outstanding vocal is as crystal clear as a mountain spring, distinctive and memorable, and will soon become recognisable at first play.
This is one to be proud of, and it could establish Jackie as one of our top Country female vocalists and songwriters.”
Gerry Ford (BBC Journalist & Broadcaster)
“Cross The Border (the album) is a gem but it’s Jackie’s version of Motorhead’s Ace Of Spades that is creating a real buzz. If you’ve never heard the original, it will stand up on it’s own as a terrific piece of Country music…full respect has been paid to the song and it really does work brilliantly…it is by far my favourite track of the year.”
Stuart Cameron, Up Country Magazine (UK)
“Once you hear Motorhead’s Ace Of Spades done in the Storrar style, you will always want it that way.”
John Murray (The Fife Free Press, Scotland)
“The title song (“Cross The Border”), full of insight and challenge, is an absolute gem, worthy of hit status. A newcomer to me, Jackie comes as destined to be one of the successful troopers of genre. Here’s a fine document, saluting her dexterity at songwriting as well as vocalizing.”
Paul Davis (Broadcaster & Journalist)
“…It’s a thoroughly entertaining production, the songs are well-crafted, Jackie’s singing is spot on and the backing instrumentation is as professional as anything coming from Music City USA.”
Jim Marshall, British Country Music Association (BCMA)
