Various musicians are part of the Jackie Tice Ensemble, including bassist/vocalist, BILLY HALL (award-winning songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, poet), and most recently, the Ensemble drumming/percussion has been wonderfully fulfilled by PACO (playing a very RED rack drum set-up with Roland percussion effects that rock!). Also, we call on KEVIN SOFFERA (drummer extraordinaire, myspace/kevinsoffera), RICH STEIN (Brooklyn-based world-class percussionist). and BILL WASHER (jazz-based lead guitar), among others.
Influences
Influenced by Nature and Human Nature. The sound of Thunder. The Spirit that moves through everything---takuskanskan. The power of Love. Risk-taking. GRATITUDE. Commitment to truth. Peace building. Trust. Community. Ancestral gifts. Faith.
Jackie Tice is a songwriter, artist, educator, Peace worker and mother of two teenagers. Born of mixed Native American (Cherokee/Crow) and Old European/Gypsy ancestry, Jackie draws on her ancestral roots to set her personal worldview into universal images.
Winner of the 2006 Indian Summer Music Award and the National Kerrville Award for Emerging Songwriters, Jackie Tice is a unique voice among acoustic performing artists. Her recent CD, Second Skin, is produced by 2005 Native American Grammy winner, Bill Miller.
An active proponent for Peace, she performed by invitation at the 2006 United Nations International Day of Peace in New York City. Among those in attendance were Michael Douglas, Jane Goodall, Yo Yo Ma and Sheika Heya Rashed Al Khalifa, President of the 61st General Assembly of the UN.
She is the founder of All Nations Peace, an International gathering of musicians from the Four Directions of the Earth, standing together as a World Tribal Peace Council in the spirit of Mitakuye Oyasin - "We Are All Related."
Jackie maintains a busy touring schedule and is also a teaching artist, presenting arts-based residencies through a federally-funded grant program, Art as a Way of Learning.
"Hers is a voice that needs to be heard."
Grammy Award winner, Bill Miller
Quotes:
Grammy-winner, Bill Miller: "Her songs are as poetic as they are powerful...hers is a voice that needs to be heard."
Greg Clayton, Spirit Horse Productions, Australia: "..>I first saw Jackie Tice live at the legendary Bluebird Cafe in Nashville back in the late 90's. It was her voice that captivated me then and now with the release of her latest CD, Second Skin, it's still that voice. At times, tortured and raw but with a sweetness and purity... Jackie's songs are exposed and open wounds detailing personal experiences and viewpoints. There are no hidden messages in these songs...the meanings are clear."
Morning Call, PA: "... a collection of cutting confessions
and resonant resolutions inspired by the Center Valley resident's paintings. It sounds Celtic, Native
American, downright tribal. Tice's melodies caress, her rhythms prick, her gliding voice bears pleasure and pain
equally easily. All about balancing anima, animus, and animal spirits, "In These Bones" nests under the skin." - Geoff
Gehman
Crossroads Magazine: "In the ever-present sea of
contemporary releases, this is a stand-out."
Acoustic Guitar Magazine: "A delectable collection of
musically buoyant and lyrically brave tunes - folk-rock with Native
American spirituality...Tice's songs capture instances of universal
recognition and appeal. He ode to a Dublin pub, 'The Marijo
Tonight', is a guitar player's 'Piano Man' and as bittersweet
as John Prine's 'Angel from Montgomery'."
Sing Out! Magazine: "A sweet and lilting album laced
the with buoyant spirit of the artist...this work does vividly recall the
feel of [Joni] Mitchell's Hejira album."
JAM Magazine, Italy "...her stylistic universe
floats above the vast galaxy of adult contemporary folk, borrowing accents
from Joni Mitchell's pre-Mingus period...an elegant acoustic-electric
project centered around the clear, silvery vocals of the artist.."
Express-Times, PA: "...Jackie Tice's songs wear
well. With each listen, a fine patina of subdued passion or restrained
ardor is added. It's [her] unsentimental stance and observant eye that
give Tice's songs their edge."
