JACK NEWMAN was (possibly) the youngest nationally touring professional UK Swing Bandleader in the post-War years up to and including the birth of Rock'n'Roll.

From his late teens until his late twenties he built a five-piece into a Big Band playing opposite all the Names of the day - Joe Loss, Teddy Foster, Ted Heath and the like.

In the 1970's he became manager of old friend and UK Bandleader Sid Phillips http://lnk.ms/dHZw0 father of jazz drummer Simon Phillips http://lnk.ms/Zny5v As manager it was Jack who organized the recording & release of the album 'Two Generations' (Contour 2870192) http://lnk.ms/d7ZYP

Later he reunited his original Big Band and gave a series of well received broadcasts for BBC Radio 2's 'Late Night Line-Up', 'Band Parade' and 'Night Ride' programmes. Two tracks from those sessions can be heard on the music player.

These are TOP UK MUSICIANS !!! They worked in Big Bands backing all visiting U.S. singers (Sinatra etc) in concert, on radio & tv. Two of them, Leon Calvert & Stan Roderick, play on three Beatles tracks.

David Brandon was guest vocalist on the Jack Newman Orchestra's reunion recordings for BBC Radio 2's 'Late Night Line-Up', 'Band Parade' and 'Night Ride' programs. On his website http://www.davidbrandonmusic.com/ David writes:

"One of my greatest friends, in the music business, was the late, Jack Newman. Jack was a man of great vision and business acumen. The Jack Newman Orchestra was the finest line-up of musical talent in the country, and in the week previous to my recording session with them, they were backing Frank Sinatra, during one of his concerts over here, in the 70s. It would take a whole book to cover the Jack Newman Story, so suffice it to say, at this point, that working with his orchestra was one of the highlights of my singing career, to date.."
