When it comes to the question of why a musician makes the music they do, some artists just seem to aim higher than others. Take for instance, Jacob Tyler Lucas, who makes music carrying his message of staying present, patient, and positive to the people.
"I love getting people out of their negative mindset and showing them they have a world full of beauty to appreciate," says Lucas.
Lucas cites Jack Johnson, Jason Mraz, John Mayer, Damien Rice, and Raul Midon as influential forces in his sound, a chilled out arrangement consisting of acoustic guitar, bass, and drums. Some songs incorporate a Latin “feel” with contagious drum beats and innovative classical guitar leads.
Before his solo effort, Lucas played in several rock bands while attending high school at Desert Vista in Ahwatukee and Metro School for the Arts in downtown Phoenix. Fresh out of high school and armed with some 50 songs he had written along the way, Lucas decided to strike out as a solo artist.
J.T.L started out as a one man band (himself on acoustic guitar). Then, in 2008, Lucas picked up his long time friend Eric Straube on bass, and the young, talented Brett Litzler, on drums, to back him up.
In the desert full of heavy rock saturating the AZ music scene, coming with an overall negative vibe, J.T.L exists as a pleasant oasis, who says it’s "okay" to be happy.
Although J.T.L is a very new band, it has already played for millions of listeners on the popular program Doug and Wolf in the Morning on Radio KTAR, and is currently getting its music out to the masses, with the full-length album, "Change is Good," set to drop in 2009.
