Influences
Let's see... Ella Fitzgerald, Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Billy Joel, the Beatles, Cole Porter, Lauren Hill, Frank Sinatra, Sheryl Crow, Selena, Jennifer Lopez (first album, specifically), Kylie Minogue. Truthfully there are probably loads of artists and music that I would strongly consider to be influential, this list is just off the top of the pile!
Sounds Like
"A surprising blend of hip-hop, dance with a pop-rock edge. (Gwen Stefani meets Janet/ Michael Jackson?)" -TAXI
The short version is I'm a recent pinay/ latina college graduate who aspires to contribute to what we hear on the radio. A lofty goal, I know. But the way I see it, people have been changing "popular sound," so why can't I? Ever since I was little, I've been exposed to all eras of music (thanks to my Mom). I started singing when i was five, but didn't think much of it. In junior high I started writing songs. They were crappy, don't get me wrong, but songs nonetheless. It wasn't until high school when I really started to perform. All this preening resulted in aspirations to start writing and performing songs. My album came about when I didn't like the redundancy of songs flooding the airways. My Stepdad said, "if you don't like it, then change it." My debut/ self-titled is my answer to his challenge (he may have not seen it that way, but i did). I think songs should have a starting point and an ending, that both music and lyrics are equally important; that songs should tell a story. So that's the long version. And if you've read this entire box, I applaud you immensely. Above all, I hope you enjoy!
