Reviewed by Mike Rimmer - Crossrhythms Radio UK

Originally from London, Jacqui Wakelam has been living in Melbourne for a number of years and has recently returned to the UK to live in London. She's brought with her a debut album that is one of the most exciting indie projects I've heard in ages. Let's see, where do I start? Jacqui is a great songwriter, penning songs that make you think and communicate faith in a non preachy way. She's also a bit of a rock chick armed with a strong voice and she's not afraid to turn everything up in a pop punk fashion. Lyrically Jacqui writes songs that cover the spectrum from the more worshipful like "His Will" to those like the title cut which makes the listener question their identity, and the dramatic "Time To Die" and the spiritual truth of losing everything to follow Jesus. Musically Jacqui has the perfect voice for this kind of music, capable of beautiful melody but then breaking out into great passion. Comparisons with Evanescence and Plumb are the most obvious and it's clear listening to this that Wakelam has plenty of talent. Highlights include the haunting "Star" whereas "A Different Kind Of Beautiful" explores issues of self esteem and "Cool" is a fun upbeat song that shows what can be achieved when you stand out from the crowd and dare to be different. Ministering in a way that's similar to Superchick and attempting to get at the heart of things, Jacqui Wakelam has unleashed a killer debut that is full of fun sounding power pop but musically and lyrically, it's full of bite! It's definitely worth putting in the effort to track it down and check it out.

I'm the insatiable searcher; always trying to keep it real. I endeavor to live inspired. I believe in an existence bigger than what we see. I pursue a purpose driven life. The less time we have the more we seem to make of it. I love God, my family are everything, I love people. I prefer the honest company of the broken. I have seen the divine in unsung places, I love it there. I aim to make others happy, leave them lifted not deflated. I want to move your feet or your heart, preferably both. Writing to me, is akin to a bacon butty with soft white fluffy rough cut bread, Ketchup, all washed down with a huge mug of tea :)

"God—you're my God! I can't get enough of you! I've worked up such hunger and thirst for God, traveling across dry and weary deserts. So here I am in the place of worship, eyes open, drinking in your strength and glory. In your generous love I am really living at last! My lips brim praises like fountains. I bless you every time I take a breath; My arms wave like banners of praise to you".

Just added to the myspace & iLike players:

"Today Is The Day" from Paul Baloche's upcoming recording "Glorious"!

You may already recognize the song as it was co-written by Paul and fellow worship leader Lincoln Brewster. Lincoln made it the title track of his latest album.

Enjoy!

Hi there! Thanks for the look at my pics! I have the book and have read it! I sure could see a lot of similarities in what has happened to us in the past! An awesome book!
I'm so glad that you are out there for us! I just wrote a new song called "I Can Hear". I was inspired after watching the movie "August Rush". I'm going to blog my story and song so look for it!
Love to you!
