Jade Warrior return with a top-flight album boasting cinematic dynamics, thoughtful instrumentation and the strategically astute placement of a roster of guest artists. This collection of songs has warmth, clarity and the power of surprise on its side.
Though very different to their classic Island albums, Now is nevertheless a worthy successor to their glory days. Record Collector
Well, color me impressed! My first impression is WOW, VERY good, Jade
Warrior is back! This is an uber-cool, very well-produced & well-executed album
& one that I think Tony Duhig would be very proud of...I can envision him in
Heaven saying, "Good job, chaps." The engineering is also top-notch--every
instrument on here (especially the DRUMS) sounds great. I could not recommend
this more highly--a VERY worthy addition to Jade Warrior's already impressive
library of music. Is sure to appeal to fans of progrock, jazz, & lovers of
avant-garde & experimental music."
The CD is a jewel in their crown, a work of art that anyone can tell was tended to lovingly before its release into the material world. The production & engineering is flawless, absolutely crystal clear. Jon's flute-isms are as wonderful as always; Glyn's voice, sounding obviously more mature these days, STILL comes across in its alternately lilting and powerfully-growling manner. We simply could not have hoped for a better album in the way of a Jade Warrior Of The New Millennium. God bless Jon & Glyn and their flawless coterie of supporting musicians for doing an impeccable job of carrying on with the true spirit of the Warrior.

This 14th album from Jade Warrior sees original vocalist Glyn Havard joining flautist Jon Field and the most recent addition to the band Dave Sturt. There are a few guests on the album too, most notably Theo Travis contributing saxophone on a number of tracks. It is a diverse album combining a range of styles, but initially with a very laid back 3am in the morning feel. Fool and his Bride opens the album and eases you in gently before building into a jazzy workout featuring some sublime bass playing from Sturt and some great saxophone from Travis. Ironically it is 3am Meltdown which marks the change half way through to some more frantic and at times discordant pieces. Jade Warrior are known for their experimentation and with this album they have produced possibly their best work. Look out for some live shows later this year.

Their ethereal period.
These four reissues are taken from the bands mid 70’s period, where they eschewed vocal fronted prog/art – related rock and followed a more instrumental/ambient route. In pursuit of this new direction they changed labels, from Vertigo to Island. They were still the samurai, sword – wielding culture vultures of yore, however, which explains the oriental cover art.
Their first Island release Floating World, consists of dreamy electric guitars (such as on the excellent Fruit and Flowers), flutes, harps and oriental percussion. But the band still rock on the contrasting Red Lotus.
There are some beautiful and intense ambient structures on Kites, which features Henry Cow’s Fred Frith. The album is well paced with progressive time signatures that ebb and flow nicely. In Waves they turn to the concept album with the help of Steve Winwood. The title track is the only track, split into two parts for two side vinyl, with an Eno-like soundscapes feel.
Way of the Sun was released during the height of punk, but rightfully ignores the fashions and ploughs its own field. Very much in the ‘soundtrack for an imaginary film’ vein, the album completes Jade Warrior’s Island ‘cycle’. It’s an experiment that’s well worth investigating.

Thanks so much for adding me on your friends list. I have been listening to Jade Warrior since the early eighties. The music is in a class by itself. The song Winter's tale is still one of my favorite's. Looking forward to getting the new album.
