    Jagoda Szmytka studied composition with Beat Furrer and Pierluigi Billone in Graz and Frankfurt/Main. Since 2010 she works on her postgraduate degree supervised by Wolfgang Rihm. She has studied additionally in masterclasses and courses a.o.: Voix Nouvelles (Fondation Royaumont), Acanthes (Metz), MATRIX (SWR Freiburg), Internationale Ferienkurse für Neue Musik in Darmstadt, Seminario Permanante do Composición (Valencia). Before she moved on to composing, she studied art history, philosophy and theory of music. She has received scholarships a.o. from DAAD, ÖAAD, Kunststiftung Baden-Wüttemberg, Alfred Töpfer-Stipendium, Wolfgang Rihm-Stipendium. In 2011 she was composer-in-residency at ZKM Karlsruhe and she received The Staubach Honoraria from the "Internationales Musikinstitut Darmstadt". As a result she receives a commission for a piece to be premiered at Darmstadt Ferienkurse 2012. Pieces by Szmytka have been performed during a.o. Warsaw Autumn, Sacrum Profanum, KODY festival, Musica Electronica Nova, Acanthes, ENSEMS, 44th the Summer Courses, Ohren auf Europa, Tokyo Experimental Festival, Audio Art or IREAM (Lisbon) as well at ZKM, Experimental Studio des SWR Freiburg, Abbaye Royaumont or ADK Berlin.
