Jah Birth New Ltd. is poised to become the most important independent record label in Jamaica. Based in Kingston, Jah Birth was created and founded by Delroy “Worm” Nevin; a record producer, executive and executive producer; manager, musician, singer, composer, and songwriter.
Jah Birth has travelled the world vicariously through its founder. Travelling with generations of various artists including: T.O.K., Chaka Demus & Pliers, Prophecy, and Sojourner, Jah Birth is establishing itself as an entity to be reckoned with.
With almost three decades of experience in the music industry, Nevin’s history is rich; his extensive knowledge and wide range of skills sets the Jah Birth label apart. Worm has worked alongside the likes of Jamaica’s “King of the Dancehall”, Beenie Man,
as his musical director and bassist. He also worked on Beenie’s 1999 Grammy nominated album “Many Moods of Moses”; Lenn Hammond’s 2001 JUNO Award winning, self-titled, debut album and Anthony B’s 1997 “Seven Seals” CD. Add the fact that he
worked with American song-writing and production team Terry Lewis and Jimmy Jam on the “How Stella Got Her Groove Back” soundtrack, and one can begin to imagine the scope of his craft.
Conceived in 2004, Worm wanted to create a corporation whereby he could retain full control of his own creativity and its integrity. At the same time, he conceptualized a company that would develop, groom, nurture and mold new talent; spearheading their careers while establishing a unique roster. Presently included on the roaster are 2005 Red Stripe BIG Break Champion - Prophecy, Kool De-Roy, and Caterpilla.
In 2002 Worm was recruited to Canada by Explorer Recording Company Inc. to manage and direct the company’s musical trajectory and production, which resulted in Jah Birth launching Prophecy’s career. At the same time, the careers of Everton Blender, and 2007 American Music Award performers, Chaka Demus and Pliers, were re-launched. During this time, Nevin also produced the Girls Gone Wild and Genocide Riddims featuring artists including: Machel Montano, Tanya Stephens, Sizzla, Anthony B, Luciano, George Knooks, Tanto Metro & Devonte, to name several.
Innovative and avant-garde, Jah Birth embraces an array of artists covering the full spectrum of reggae music: roots and culture, roots-rock, lover’s rock and dancehall. Artists who have worked with Worm and/or Jah Birth, past and present include: Lutan Fyah, Lenn Hammond, Oba Simba, Junior X, and Blessed, among others.
Jah Birth is a global trend setter providing a frontline approach to success through distribution and sales for the label’s diverse roster. With plans to saturate the global market one continent at a time, Jah Birth continues to work tirelessly to advance the careers of its artists.
