Jai Alai was formed in 1999 in New Orleans by Jake Springfield. From 1999-2005 they wrote songs about summer camps in Florida, bad jobs, car accidents, and pothead best friends. Jai Alai toured the country, played CMJ and SXSW, shared stages with American Analog Set, Isotope 217, Joan of Arc, Chicago Underground Duo, Dave Pajo, and many others. They played every wonderland and craphole in New Orleans twice and then some (Mermaid Lounge, Howlin’ Wolf, Circle Bar, Hi-Ho, etc. ).
Jai Alai produced the DIVISION EP (2001), the CONDORMAN 7-inch, and the DRIVE SAFE album (2003). Jai Alai (Springfield, Hurley, Kennedy, McClimon line-up) was finishing a follow-up album when Hurricane Katrina struck in 2005. End of Jai Alai.
Ohmygod, dude! Is that you? What ever happened to Jai Alai?
McClimon relocated to Indiana and sired a Katrina baby. Kennedy blows glass up North. Sometimes Jai Alai percussionist Greengold plays in Los Poboycitos in New Orleans. Founding Jai Alai member Springfield lives in New Orleans and is at work with Hurley and others on a new musical project, Heater People. Any Jai Alai inquiries should be directed to Springfield here.
