"..enough effortless time changes to keep your inner emo kid on his toes, and usually, they do it all in one song. Jakartah have produced an intriguing and, even with its potentially distracting smorgasbord of sounds, memorable debut" -exclaim!
"Jakartah’s need to be understood outweighs the emotional posturing of rage that is too frequent in their contemporaries". -melophobe
"vocals freewheel between wailing, droning and shouting adding the compelling soundscapes the band builds. And that's what this band are: compelling" -rockfreaks
"I like that it doesn't just play up to various trends and fashions - this is a particularly untrendy album, and I say that as a compliment" -Punktastic
"Jakartah has a way of creating a truly unique approach that defies categorization in the best way possible". -Averisonline
"This is the Vancouver band’s first full length. It’s also kind of amazing, considering they released stuff of this caliber right off the bat". -listen to this once
"Jakartah are a product of a city known just as much for its salmon as its heroine" -winniecooper.net
The Vancouver-based post-hardcore act Jakartah presents a set of urgent indie-rock. Revealing a tendency towards prog-like time changes and heavy riffing, the Canadian trio’s songs are as challenging as they are compelling, as evinced on the dynamic debut release "In The Nervous Lights Of Coincidence" [Torque Records / Victory Records]
Jakartah established themselves with a relentless work ethic originally playing higher profile local shows, recording a 3 song demo and scoring a deal for there debut album after playing 11 shows. Shortly after they recorded there debut album: In The Nervous Lights Of Coincidence with Jesse Karr (The Hive Studios) & mastered by These Arms Are Snakes drummer/engineer wizard Chris Common in Seattle (Red Room Studios).
After constant touring, one of those tours a stint across Canada, they began breaking ground-with rave reviews of there live shows and press coverage in exclaim! magazine and Alternative Press. To further promote the album a video was shot for "A Thousand Miles Connects You To Me" but was banned on MuchMusic for some footage of Vancouver's DTES in the video. Jakartah has shared the stage with These Arms Are Snakes, Akimbo, Ghosts Of Modern Man, Daggermouth, A Textbook Tragedy--to name a few.
The band spent 2009 writing there follow album and dominating local performances in the pacific northwest. 2010 will see a higher profile from Jakartah - a new album, national touring, and new management to boot. The band is recording there sophmore album in January 2010 with Stuart McKillop (Daggermouth, A Textbook Tragedy, Bison, Brat Pack) at the helm.

I'm working on getting my Enhanced Driver's License, as I don't have a passport and couldn't get one in time, but I should have one in time for the show.
Hey man, show went pretty good... Sound gear problems, but that was nobodies fault. And a mix up with the bands as far as order...also "nobodies" fault. Songs are sounding fucking awesome. We NEED to play together soon.
