Charles-Antoine Gosselin (musician) and Philippe Custeau (writer, musician and Doctor of Chiropractic) began trading songs by mail ten years ago while Custeau still lived and studied in Iowa. Their first two albums, released in 2006 and 2008 respectively, feature guest appearances by some of Canada's finest musicians, including Bob Egan (Blue Rodeo, Wilco) and Jim Bryson (Tragically Hip, Howe Gelb, Kathleen Edwards). The albums have been critically acclaimed by the Canadian and international press. The band has opened for and played with some of the country's most respected acts since. Their third full-length release, "At Midnight, the Birdsong" will be coming out in 2010.

Coup de cœur de janvier : Jack and the Leprochauns
Depuis janvier 2008, chaque mois, je publie un coup de cœur musical. Ce n’est pas une critique d’album proprement dite. C’est plutôt un hommage à l’album qui nous aura suivi de l’appart à la voiture à la radio à l’appart, et qui continue de le faire même si le mois est terminé.
Mi-janvier 2009, il fait frette. Pas froid. Frette. À la radio, je reçois peu d’albums. mais parmi ceux-ci, une pochette retient mon attention. Un peu parce qu’elle n’a l’air de rien et que, simultanément, il s’en dégage quelque chose d’industriel. En tout petit, il est écrit : Jake and the Leprechauns.
Dans ma voiture encore froide, je glisse le disque dans le lecteur cd et j’écoute. Petite guitare s’installe. Une flûte vient y danser joyeusement. Et soudainement, débarque un chœur masculin et habilement maladroit : « Maybe we should find a house on the beach, maybe we should move to Greace, Maybe we should find a house on the beach,… » Ouiiiiiiiiiiii! Déménager en Grèce, loin de cet hiver qui me gèle! Quel rêve!
Et l’album de continuer. Chaud et simple à la fois. Dès la première écoute, d’autres brides de textes accrochent mes oreilles et me donnent le goût d’en savoir plus. « It’s hopelessly human »; « it’s new year 1921 »; « with dreams of unborn babies »; « another night of cold blanquets »; « your name, a mantra… and the mystical smell of pumpkins »; « and it’s only september ». J’étais convaincu que l’album me ferait voyager.
Et la voix. Un subtil mélange d’assurance et de fragilité, particulièrement dans les ballades mélancoliques. Douceur, supplication, espoir, douleur… Le tout merveilleusement bien harmonisé avec les back vocal, qui viennent à tout coup ajouter de la profondeur, ce qui fait souvent la différence en fait entre un bon album et un coup de cœur.
Au moment où j’écris ces lignes, je suis encore sous le charme du spectacle qui fut donné par le groupe hier au Zaricot (St-Hyacinthe). Avec confiance, j’y av

Yes, as stated on your page, your album is available through on-line retailers, but may I mention here that it is also available from at least one "brick and mortar" store, a small independant record store, the last surviving independant record store in sherbrooke actually: Music City ! (Musique Cité).
