I am a big Magnum P.I. fan. Perhaps it's the throw-back nature of the show. Or maybe it's Magnum's incessant helpful disposition set against a Hawaiian backdrop. I feel a kinship to the show's main stays -- Rick, T.C., Magnum and even Higgins, who is really author Robin Masters. Many episodes find our protagonists sorting through their own pasts.
In fact, Magnum P.I. was commended for its portrayal of former soldiers of the Vietnam-era and ever previous war eras. Each episode deals with righting wrongs, saving souls and making the world a better place -- priceless.
I also dig Rescue Me with Denis Leary, best drama on T.V. & It's Always Sunny in Philadephia, funniest show on T.V., both on F/X, check 'em out
The Daily Show and The Colbert Report, Bill Maher and I D.V.R. Jeopardy everyday.Books
I have many books with random scraps of paper and receipts marking a page I once read up to (or maybe twice). The last book I took on was Searching for Captain Zero, it's rad. I'm also reading several Anthropology textbooks and numerous journal articles right now for class. Dark Star Safari by Paul Theroux, my favorite book ever.
Bob Dylan's Chronicles is excellent too. Anyone remember Microserfs?
I don't get lost in books as much as I should/could. I get credit for reading a lot more books than I have. There are just too many distractions. And excuses. And t.v. shows on my d.v.r...Heroes
"Down these mean streets a man must go who is not himself mean, who is neither tarnished nor afraid. He is the hero, he is everything.
He must be a complete man and a common man and yet an unusual man. He must be, to use a rather weathered phrase, a man of honor, by instinct, by inevitability, without thought of it, and certainly without saying it. He must be the best man in his world and a good enough man for any world."
- Rebecca Harding Davis
"The hero is one who kindles a great light in the world, who sets up blazing torches in the dark streets of life for men to see by." - Felix Adler
"A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself." - Joseph Campbell
"Explore your mind, discover yourself, then give the best that is in you to your age and to your world. There are heroic possibilities waiting to be discovered in every person." - Wilferd A. Peterson
"Without heroes we're all plain people and don't know how far we can go." - Bernard Malamud
"Heroism is not just pulling a child from a burning house or a driver from an icy river or a kitten from a tall tree. Heroism is also holding the door for a frail elderly and driving courteously and cooperatively and listening with an attentive heart to a friend's words. Small daily acts of love are as heroic as big once-in-a-lifetime acts of rescue." - L. M. Heroux
"Aspire rather to be a hero than merely appear one." - Baltasar Gracian
"Few of us will do the spectacular deeds of heroism that spread themselves across the pages of our newspapers in big black headlines. But we can all be heroic in the little things of everyday life. We can do the helpful things, say the kind words, meet our difficulties with courage and high hearts, stand up for the right when the cost is high, keep our word even though it means sacrifice, be a giver instead of a destroyer. Often this quiet, humble heroism is the greatest heroism of all." - Wilferd A. Peterson
"A hero cannot be a hero unless in a heroic world." - Nathaniel Hawthorne
"A hero is someone who understands the responsibility that comes with his freedom." - Bob Dylan
"A boy doesn't have to go to war to be a hero; he can say he doesn't like pie when he sees there isn't enough to go around." - Edgar Watson Howe

About me:
There's nothing fundamentally wrong with people. Given a story to enact that puts them in accord with the world, they will live in accord with the world. But given a story to enact that puts them at odds with the world, as yours does, they will live at odds with the world. Given a story to enact in which they are the lords of the world, they will act like the lords of the world. And, given a story to enact in which the world is a foe to be conquered, they will conquer it like a foe, and one day, inevitably, their foe will be bleeding to death at their feet, as the world is now.
- Daniel Quinn
Who I'd like to meet:
You! But, seriously folks... Those people whose personal epiphones have placed them on a perch. From the perch where great things will be accomplished, an activist in these days, poised to bring healing to the unhealed and joy to the joyless. I want to meet people who make the world a better place everyday. I want hope to be something tangible again. Will you help me make this OUR reality?
