Music
My two favorite bands (in interchangeable order, depending on my current phase) are Toto and King's X.
..
..
A band which deserves a place with them, but for a simple lack of a longer catalog, is Jellyfish.
.."425" height="350">..
These three bands most completely personify my idea of the ingredients which make up the perfect rock band. Great musicianship, melodies, harmonies, vocals, lyrics, hooks, and songwriting (did I leave anything out?) are combined in a way that is perfectly suited to rock my world. Some of my other favorites are (here we go.......) In the classic rock category-the Beatles & Paul McCartney, Steely Dan, Kansas (duh), Queen, Heart,
Jethro Tull, the Police & Sting, Chicago, Genesis & Peter Gabriel, Billy Joel, James Taylor, Elton John, Alan Parsons Project, Pink Floyd, ELO, Supertramp, and Yes. 80s Bands-Tears For Fears, Asia, Crowded House, Mr. Mister, Hall & Oates, XTC, the Hooters, the Outfield, and sadly, Michael Jackson. Metal-Queensryche, Saigon Kick, Extreme & anything Nuno is involved in, Dream Theater, and Alice In Chains. Everything else, which include 90's, Power pop, Christian & whatever else- Ben Folds (& Five), Brendan Benson, Bleu, Candy Butchers, Coldplay, Collective Soul, Harry Connick Jr, Dada, Del Amitri, Eels, Jason Falkner, Fountains Of Wayne, Galactic Cowboys, Phil Keaggy, John Mayer, Owsley, Michael Penn, PFR, Platypus, Porcupine Tree, Posies, Remy Zero, Self, Semisonic, Sloan, Michael W. Smith, Spacehog, Splitsville, Spocks Beard, Superdrag, Switchfoot, Tonic, Tories, Treble Charger, and Weird Al Yankovic, amongst many others. Some newer faves are- Mute Math, the Shins, Rooney, and Ludo.
Movies
For most of my life, Ive been a totally sold out, card carrying, toy collecting, trivia memorizing, line quoting, Star Wars geek. And proud of it. Ive travelled across the country in both directions for conventions. I even played the processional from the end of A New Hope at my wedding. I have thousands of dollars worth of toys in a rented storage unit. I dont bring them to my house for fear that my kids will touch them. MY KIDS!!!!!!!.......TOUCH MY TOYS!!!!!!!!.......Oh well, like Popeye said, "I yam what I yam!" As far as other favorites go, lets see, Im also very frighteningly obsessed with the Aliens and Predator Series. I love quality action and horror movies, hell, I just like good movies, which are rarer and rarer these days. Give me the 80s anyday. Highlights include the Indiana Jones series, anything with zombies (especially Romero), Monty Python movies, stuff with Bill Murray (except that inexplicable snore-fest Lost In Translation), Steve Martin, Jack Black, Will Ferrell, Ben Stiller, Farelly Brothers, Cohen Brothers, Tom Hanks for the most part, again anything truly GOOD.
Television
TV, huh. Well, the bulk of my TV watching is either movies or sports. Current shows I like are-Survivor (the only reality TV show I can stand), Lost, The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Ghost Hunters, anything on TLC, A&E, DISC, or HIST about crime, disaster, war, the supernatural, mystery, heroism, or history. I watch a lot of VH1 classic too, Great channel! As far as all time favorites go- Mr. Show, heres one of my all time favorite sketches. Prepare to wet yourself!
..
Monty Python, Kids In The Hall, Beavis & Butthead, South Park, Mad TV, Saturday Night Live, Chapelles Show, Reno 911, Black Adder, Tenacious D, and Mystery Science Theater 3000. As you can see, I favor comedy, specifically skits. Im not much for drama or sit coms. I HATE FRIENDS.
Books
I love anything by Dean Koontz. Im reading more Stephen King than I used to, mainly cause Im out of Koontz books to read. However, I was seriously sucked in to the Dark Tower series. Dang, they should make a TV series out of it! C.S. Lewis. Ray Bradbury. H.G. Wells. Lots of others.
Heroes
Jesus, John Merrick. My beloved uncle Fred Hunt recently departed,My Cousin Kyle who just joined the CBs in the Navy. My uncle Kerry and my Grandfathers Allen Livgren and Brig. Gen. Edgar L. Degraw. People with the heart to help those who need it. Police (unless they are giving me a ticket). George Lucas (pre new trilogy).Doug Pinnick. Steve Lukather. Dane Cook. Weird Al.
About me: Hi,
I'm Jake Livgren. I am a singer/multi-instrumentalist/songwriter from the state of Kansas. The bulk of my notable work has been done working with my uncle, Kerry Livgren of the 70's/80's rock group Kansas, and his current group, Protokaw.
This is a video of us playing in Holland in Jan of 06. You don't see me much in it (guy in red Chiefs jersey) but my tambourine and really high notes on the choruses can be heard clearly.
..
Although I am terribly proud of most everything I've done in my career so far and fully intend to continue in the avenues I've been involved with, I am always on the lookout for new opportunities in the business. I also have had a band of my own, Jabberwockie, which did some great things and wrote some songs I am still very proud of, and am currently working with a fabulously talented collaborator from Texas by way of Scotland, Bill Evans. I have many irons in the fire and I'm excited about all of them.
As far as my non professional life goes, I am married to a lovely babe named Mary and have three children Gavin, 11, Lyda Rose, 5,
and Hayden Edgar, who is goin' on 2. If I fail at everything else in life, God please dont let me fail as a father!
I hope you find this page interesting and informative and I'll try to keep it updated if anything significant comes up.
Later-
-Jake

As our friend you are probably happy to know that we have started taken Pre-Orders on our new album "For Moments Never Done". Whenever you feel like it you can check www.cirrhaniva.nl.
We have so far been unable to raise the money necessary to put on Dogstock Music Festival benefiting Akita Adoption and Rescue Foundation plus Animal Sanctuary as we face foreclosure and more. We need help and donations of all kinds to keep the rescue going (and keep our home), let alone the festie.
We want to do an online auction of celebrity memorabilia, get some bands to donate a show or two to the cause, and put on a real bell ringer of a fest once our ducks are in a row. In order to pull that off we need many more donations of cool memorabilia and motivated bands that care for the cause.
Our hands are full to overflowing, so we aren't able to leave the farm except for Suzie going to work. If we had more dog care volunteers we could visit with lots of bands at their gigs about doing a series of benefits in clubs, theatres and eventually a better than ever festie here where it all began!
We deeply appreciate any and all assistance, including tax deductible monetary donations, and could sure use more volunteers to help with chores and the dogs. Lots more info is on the myspace dogstock site.
Peace,

IF YOU CAN FIND IT IN YOUR CONSCIENCE PLEASE HELP US FIGHT TO SAVE THIS SANCTUARY AND THE ANIMALS WE PROTECT WHILE BRINGING DOWN THE UNETHICAL "SUPERVISION" OF THE "PET INDUSTRY" BY THE STATE LIVESTOCK COMMISSION!!! DOGS ARE NOT LIVESTOCK, THEY ARE SURROGATE CHILDREN, BUT MOST IN THIS STATE ARE CONSIGNED TO A LIVING HELL FOR PROFIT OF PET FARMERS AND THEIR SHILLS WHO ARE EMPLOYED BY THE STATE.
At this point we are facing foreclosure and draconian tactics by the state livestock commission as well as the Osage land use coordinator and county attorney to shut us down, imprison me, make my long suffering wife homeless and murder the animals we protect. They have run countless rescue groups out of this backward place, and if we back down there is very little voice remaining for the voiceless animals. Lets not forget Osage County had the KKK running its 4th of July celebrations in the county seat, and many landmarks are known to this day for their use in evil lynchings. We thought we were moving to a sleepy Kansas county, but got something closer akin to 1950s Mississippi!
We and our other foundation members and volunteers have been responsible for many hundreds; well over a thousand of adoptions the thirteen + years we've been involved doing animal rescue full time. We are currently caring for over sixty rescued dogs, many feral cats, an elderly pony and a rescued parrot along with our personal assortment of dogs and cats. Much more info on our mission is available on our shelter Petfinder site: www. petfinder. com/shelters/KS16. html.
However, we can never save hands on what simple knowledge of this situation and a bit of pet owner education can accomplish. We are NOT speaking against responsible breeders, but in the big picture and with "commercial breeders" and "backyard breeders" thrown in with the responsible ones the ratio of good to bad is weighted heavily to the bad.

I'm going to be interviewed on Independents Uncovered. An Internet Radio Station out of George Mason University in Washington DC at 8:00pm central time tonight.
They did this promotion to have people write a song around the words "Blind to You",and they are going to honor those who wrote songs by playing them and interviewing us tonight.
I'm hoping that you might be able to give a listen if your schedule permits.
