TOUMANI DIABATE
" I just love Fily's voice.
When he sings it's as if he is singing my kora back to me.
He understands my music because he is also a Griot and plays the kora."
CHARLIE GILLETT/BBC Radio3 The Sound of the World
Doumajoulo by UK-based kora player Jali Fily Cissokho passes all the tests, full of distinctive songs that are well-played and well-sung.
TIM HEALEY/Oxford Folk Festival
"Thank you for the CD. Perfect for a sunny Monday morning coming down
from the festival. Played it once – and played it straight through again.
A great album, full of warmth and depth and happy vibes."
CON MURPHY / fROOTS (Roots Salad) October 2008
DOUMAJOULOU CD-There's certainly a lot to admire on album tracks such as
JALIA and UMBALAFEYLE TETAMBULO, but it's only when you hear them lurch
into shape in concert that you can appreciate the full potential of the ensemble.

Poem 2 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse (please see my blog): WALKABOUT WITH MY PEN
Once drove an old sedan, up north, From a place in Sydney to Cairns; Then to Kuranda I went forth, By train, to look without set plans.
I browsed through the trendy market, With fresh fruits of tropical kind; Walked to the creek through lush thicket - Nature’s hand giving peace of mind.
I dined in a scenic cafe; Then, outside, as I wrote for yen, Some passing Kooris called-out: “Hey, You go walkabout with your pen.”
Request or question, I don’t know - Assured voices, elderly men. That’s now several years ago, And I’ve seen the world - with my pen.
We hope you can come to our gig at Bush Hall, Shepherd's Bush on Friday. Spread the word to your friends. It'll be a great party.
Its the launch party for our new album "Baka Beyond the Forest" that was released on Monday
You can hear clips on our website (www.baka.co.uk) and our Myspace page.
