Music
**********
What I enjoy spinning and listening to MOST: Ambient, House, Trip Hop, Electronica, Horizontal Lounge Listening.
I don't listen to commercial FM radio. It sucks. That said: I love Sirius Satellite Radio, Area 33, Chill 35 and XM81 BPM.
See my "friends" section to see my fave DJs and groups...too many to list here, but a few are: Ministry Of Sound, Massive Attack, Groove Armada, Deep Dish, Murk, Kaskade, Royksopp, Chicane, Future Sound Of London, William Orbit, DJ Shadow, Danny T., Victor C., Paul Oakenfold, Tiesto, Armin Van Buuren, Paul Van Dyk, Matt Darey, Morcheeba, Lustral, Freemasons, Zero 7, Nightmares on Wax, Moby, Deathcab for Cutie, Coldcut, Coldplay (before they became famous, Moloko, The KLF, Nightmares on Wax, Layo & Bushwacka, Hooverphonic, Boards of Canada, Mazzy Star, Lemon Jelly, Kruder & Dorfmeister, Buddha Bar, Fila Brazillia, Body & Soul, and I could go on forever...
....
Movies
Indie film mostly: Fargo, Pulp Fiction, 21 Grams, Mulholland Drive, Crash, I Heart Huckabies, Garden State, Traffic, Memento, Blow, Mystic River. Bladerunner is one of my all time faves and I also enjoy the classics like North by Northwest, Bogie, Hepburn, Doris Day, anything by Hitchcock (brilliant!), etc.
Television
Law & Order...all of them including SVU and CI. The History Channel, Biography Channel, National Geographic Channel, anything intellectually stimulating.
Books
Neuromancer, 1984, Atlas Shrugged, DaVinci Code, The Purpose Driven Life, Care of the Soul by Thomas Moore, Deepak Chopra, Wayne Dyer, anything that makes me think!
Heroes
Heros are harder to come by these days. They aren't athletes or politicians. They are the unsung heros...the everyday common man and woman who don't consider themselves heroes. They just do what they do to make this world a better place for the rest of us.
Award winning DJ JFX began her professional career at age 14, first as a studio recording engineer and roadie, blossoming into an on-air radio personality, and eventually graduating into the professional club circuit as a DJ in the '80s. JFX presently continues her career as a mentor, DJ, promoter, and producer. She's dropped beats at hundreds of clubs throughout the U.S., Mexico, and the Caribbean. The following is an excerpted article by freelance magazine reporter Angie Grabski:
DJ JFX: Born to Entertain
Imagine you're on a dance floor... at a club where your pulsating body is just one of hundreds. You're feeling 'it'- the energy, the heat, the excitement. Sweat is pouring down and your hair is a mess and the muscles in your body feel so weak. But they're still moving, seemingly without any input from your brain, and you have forgotten everything else but this exact moment. DJ JFX is the woman who brought you to this moment. She is that anonymous presence in the DJ booth watching you...your every move...your every breath and determining where she'd like to take you next. She's done her homework. She knows the best music to play to get your heart pumping faster and faster. She knows what music you want to hear. She knows how to make you forget about the fight with your lover, your boss getting on you at work, the traffic on the way to the club.
Says JFX, "I think when people come out and they spend their hard-earned money, they want to forget about all the BS that goes on in their week, in their daily lives, they want entertainment."
JFX has worked enough clubs and bars and parties to know her crowds. Here's the goods on JFX: She's been in the disc jockey business long before remixes existed and DJs were speeding up and slowing down records with their fingers to create intro and outros. She's a spiritual person with a confidence that she has found exactly what she was meant to do on this earth. Through it all she has managed to create a sound, a party, an atmosphere that is all her own.
"It's quite an elevating feeling to be in the DJ booth and watch hundreds of people dancing to my beats," explains JFX. "To facilitate this 'thing', this feeling...the ambiance, it really gets me high. It's a symbiotic relationship because everybody's getting high with me, we're reciprocating. It's very lifting. To me, it's as close to heaven as I'll ever get on earth."
Opportunities arose and JFX took advantage of them: Radio disc jockey, Mobile DJ and when she began exploring her sexuality in gay bars, she met gay male DJs who taught her how to spin vinyl. And then she met up with now famous DJ Danny Teneglia who showed her the effect of the application of sound on the human body. Who knew there was so much going on in that DJ booth?
"You know it's a very psychological thing to generate a dance floor. Music and sound can transform people physiologically. Because we are made mostly of water, a DJ can actually use sound to create a state, if you will, of higher being. It's a beautiful thing to go into an empty space, have an idea, develop that idea and then watch your hard work come to fruition," she says.
"There are people out there who support me tirelessly and I appreciate that. It is incredibly wonderful to be able to be who I am, to be open about it, and to have a vocation where I can actually experience it with my peers. I couldn't do it without, them. It would be awfully boring to play to an empty dance floor."
DJ JFX (jame' foks) is a South Florida Dixie Award Winner for "Outstanding Club DJ" and she is also a DMC award winning DJ. She was an instructor at Metatrack Studios in Washington, DC during its hey-day. She was DJ and guest emcee for the Capital Pride Festival in Washington, D.C. for 3 years. DJ JFX is a seasoned entertainment veteran with over two decades of radio and professional club experience. Her unique blend of high energy and originality has inspired thousands of undulating bodies to an incredibly high state of euphoria.
CAREER HIGHLIGHTS:
(In her own words)
** Deejaying and emceeing Capital Pride in Washington, DC. ("Standing on stage and looking into a crowd of 300,000 people and seeing Pennsylvana Avenue lined with rainbow flags as far as the eye can see is AMAZING!")
** Deejaying at Suncoast Resort. ("Working 5,000 people into a dancing, undulating frenzy is total euphoria. A packed dance floor full of screaming, sweat soaked bodies makes me high!")
** Working with Showtime rolling out the L Word series and working with MTV rolling out LOGO Television.
** Planning, organizing and executing The Bull Run Festival of Lights, a 2.5 mile drive through holiday light show and holiday village.
...and last but certainly not least:
** Producing, coordinating and deejaying the longest running and most popular dance event in the Mid-Atlantic: "Tea" at the Renegade Resort in Rehoboth Beach, DE. For 11 summers thousands of party-goers came from all over the U.S. to dance and celebrate summer at the beach...until the Renegade closed it's doors forever.
It's been a great ride...and it's only just begun!

About this page:
I have been very active in Domestic Violence causes all of my adult life. I noticed a need in the world pertaining to Same Sex Domestic Violence. It happens more than people know. Unfortunately there are a number of gay people who barely consider themselves worthy or valued as a gay person much less a Domestic Violence Victim. There are also very limited resources, statistics, or information, for Same Sex Domestic Violence. Hopefully through empowerment and education we can change some of this. :D
