James Cannon And The Sinners are currently recording their debut ALBUM as of now, the 8th of April 2008, it is expected to take a month and a half, so gigging has been cut to a minimum.
In the past 6 months the band have played a sell out gig at the POLISH Club, Barnsley on Boxing Day 2007, surpassing previous attendance records.
LIVE ON CROATIAN NATIONAL TV - HRT Channel - 16.03.08
The band have played quite a few local venues this year and packed them all. Including a not so local appearance at the Manchester Irish Festival 2008, playing the coveted Post Parade Celebration gig, which was attended by Dubliner’s legend Sean Cannon, who just decided he wanted to support his son at one of the biggest Irish Festivals in Europe.

The lads then travelled to Croatia for the St. Patrick’s Day Celebration (13th-17th March 2008) and played 5 sell out days of shows, including the Zrinjevac Festival to 8,000 people, not bad for a relatively new band. With a performance on Croatian National Television Channel HRT to boot. The Sinners made a fantastic impression in Croatia and have been invited back later in the year to play bigger and better venues.
8,000 PEOPLE at Zrinjevac Festival, Zagreb, CROATIA 15th March 2008
Also in March the boys played at the Sturdy Lads, Barnsley to a full house, which was attended by Brian Howard the Captain of Barnsley Football Club, the same Mr. Howard who scored the winning goal at Anfield to dump Liverpool FC out of the FA Cup, and commented how much he’d enjoyed the band. The feeling is mutual Brian!
On April the 4th the band played at The Venue, Stocksbridge and again played to a full room, the audience including 4 Germans who’d travelled over especially to watch James Cannon And The Sinners perform. All thanks to the power of Myspace, Youtube and Yorkshire "graft".
General Information
THE SINNERS are 5 musicians brought together by a mutual love of The Pogues, a Good Drink and the Craic.
All based in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, they have played in numerous groups, with the core members working together for years, in rock bands.
JAMES CANNON the frontman and vocalist is the son of SEAN CANNON, of legendary Irish Folk Group THE DUBLINERS and has toured Europe extensively with his father for the last 12 years.
The rhythm section, Baz (Drums) and Jim (Bass) have also played with James for years in different guises and enjoy a close musical understanding which gives THE SINNERS a distinctive powerful foundation.
The excellent Fiddle playing of ‘Dominic Dudill’ can be heard throughout the Sinner‘s sets. Dominic's sensitive, lively playing adds true traditional quality to the Sinner's sound, along with the new boy ‘Wes Lomas’, who plays Banjo and Mandolin. The pair play superb renditions of many Irish Jigs and Reels which are guaranteed to get any crowd dancing. When Dominic is unavailable Stuart Hazelton steps in, a fantastic fiddle player also, but with the added bonus of having played live with TOM WAITS and appearing on the TINDERSTICKS debut album, enough said ladies and gentlemen.
The band is relatively young, but has met with considerable success on the local Pub and Club circuit, capitalising on their wealth of experience. Always presenting an entertaining and memorable show which incorporates many traditional Irish songs and great contemporary material by such artists as:- The Pogues, Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash.
The lads have Toured Europe this year and have sucessfully won over Croatia during The St. Patrick's Day Celebration, with dates also coming soon in Norway, Holland, Scotland and of course Ireland - it looks like a busy and successful time for THE SINNERS.

Poem 162 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse (please see my blog): TEES TO TYNE: FIRST IMPRESSIONS - SUMMER 2001
Where traditions are not so rare; Sea, country and works scent the air; A multitude of monuments, Planted tubs and patterned pavements.
The longish pedestrian malls; The remnants of defensive walls; Historic buildings are a gauge Of the respect for heritage.
Wheat, rape and pines in the fields; Estuaries guarded by shields; Long sandy beaches and wide scenes; Romantic-ruin go-betweens.
Rivers in parts licked by trees, Or fringed by boat clubs, wharfs, gantries, And crossed by practical delights - Varied spans, forming pleasing sights.
Fine churches headed at Durham; Football kits ad infinitum; Kept castles - one for study; Masonry behind masonry.
And, with moulding-works out that way, It’s somewhere for a longer stay..?
