Bio
.............. ..James Carloss is a songwriter, producer, musician, singer who hails from Los Angeles, California. His interest in music began as a youngster when he was exposed to a variety of genres. His very diverse musical palette has contributed to his ability to write and produce in a variety of styles. He began his music career as a self-taught drummer and attended Locke High School in Los Angeles, during its legendary musical period. Going to high school with such percussive greats as Leon "Ndugu" Chancler and Raymond Pounds was a very humbling, yet educational experience. During his high school years, his love for jazz increased tremendously and remains a force in his life even today. After playing drums in a couple of bands, he bought an inexpensive acoustic guitar and began experimenting with songwriting. He spent two years in the Army where he played drums in a band while stationed at Fort Hood, Texas. By the time he got out of the Army, he had written a few songs and upon his return to Los Angeles, he co-founded a cover band in which he played guitar and they performed some of his original compositions. That band, eventually known as "Rapture" worked with legendary Motown producer, Lamont Dozier on a four-song project. One of the four songs was written by James and for the first time he got a chance to witness how a producer, arranger could breathe life into an otherwise ordinary song. Working with Dozier made James realize that there was more to writing a song than picking out a few chords on guitar and singing a rough melody. Because of those recording sessions, James became a more complete songwriter as well as beginning his journey as a producer. In addition to Lamont Dozier, he has also worked with Cornelius Grant, Will Bryant (Maze), Kenji Brown (Rose Royce), Vic Johnson (Bus Boys, Total Eclipse, Sammy Hagar), David Vasquez (Moonlight Studios), Jeff Lewis (Moonlight Studios, Lenny Williams, Bill Summers, Jacksons, Malo, Tierra), Donald Tavie (Another Hit Productions, Lakeside), Gregory Matta (Side Effect), Phyllis Chang (Indie Artist), Randy Brown (Parachute Records recording artist), singers Lynn Davis and Dianne Reeves, percussionist Paulinho da Costa, bassist, producer, engineer Robert "Pee Wee" Hill & keyboardist Michiko Hill (both of whom have played with Billy Preston & Rufus, among others). James also provided his songwriting talents to the Christian CD "Higher Level" by The Freelife Project. He co-wrote serveral of the tunes, including "Changes" featuring Judith Hill who caught everyone's attention during the finale at Michael Jackson's memorial. This CD is available on CD Baby, Amazon.com, & The I-Tunes Store. The CD's producer, Vince Witherspoon and James are currently working on other projects. -
