4everYoung's Interests
General
One of the first things that drew us together was our passion for music!! And one of his all-time favorite singer-songwriters was Neil Young.
The last concert we attended together was Neil Young at Red Rocks... a few months later, James died on Neil's birthday, November 12th, 2003.

I did the tribute twice- with Neil Young, as James would have wanted and with Stevie Nicks since she was the first concert we attended together. We spent many hours talking about Fleetwood Mac, Lindsay Buckingham, Christie McVie... and of course, Stevie Nicks.

The above listed titles are the ones I know he loved, because he gave me a copy of my own, wanting so badly to share them with me.

Heroes
When I met James, we were asked to name a hero or a person we respected. James said 'Jesus Christ'. I remember thinking... hmmmm, maybe we won't be such good friends after all. But what I found in James was a deep, otherworldly spiritual side and an old soul. During the mid- to late-80's we gravitated to the New Age movement; James worked in metaphysical bookstores in Boulder and San Diego. He had even studied theology and philosophy in college; meditating, praying, chanting and fasting... until he thought he was going mad.
Thus began the 'agnostic, on the verge of atheist' phase of his life, when every existential question was answered with: 'I don't know and/or I don't care.' He didn't stay in that state of mind for very long, too many of life's coincidences, chance moments and lucky charms were once again chalked up to a Higher Power.
About me: It's taken me a few years, but I'm finally ready to put together this memorial page for my friend (and quite possibly soulmate) James Joe Dovali.
James lived primarily in 3 states: Alaska, as a child; California, in his teens and early 20's; then spent the rest of his short life in Colorado. We lived together in both California and Colorado. (see Blog for more details about 'our' life)
James studied piano as a child and teen; to the obsessive point of playing 'quietly' while his family was attempting to sleep! He entered and won talent contests in school. James picked up a guitar in Boulder, strung it left-handed and taught himself to play by ear.
He was also a gifted artist, never giving himself the credit he deserved. His drawings looked like black & white photographs!! We collaborated on a comic strip of our boring lives and silly thoughts, he drew - I wrote.
MUCH MORE TO COME...
Who I'd like to meet:

Hey Friend, I was just reading that they have named a new species of spider after Neil Young. Wonder what you both would think of that? You're still in my thoughts, from time to time. Jackie
