James wrote and produced the album, played some instruments including guitars, keyboards, some bass, a freakin' drum machine, and did most of the vocals. He wants to be a doctor. What?
Shane Roberts played some drums, some piano, and did a little singing. He's even played some shows. He's a surfer now.
Evan Hisey helped out with bass about seven years ago. He's gone on to bigger things. It is appreciated.
Spencer Moore helped with some keyboards. He's overseas now.
Jeff Simms played drums, sang, created disturbing cacophonies. He helped run the board some too. He just bought a house.
Jason Jackson played a lot of bass, all kinds of guitar, backed up the vocals, played piano and slept alot. He's a hard worker with dirt on his hands.
Matt Broyles ran the computer and helped engineer this thing. The project would have never been finished without his prodding (actually, its still not finished).
Influences
Anything one experiences is an influence one way or another. Influences can be subtle and nuanced or shamefully large and shiny, or somewhere in the ether between. New Nashville music influences us not to sound like new Nashville music. Its nothing personal. Some artists stress passion and energy, some value melody above rhythm, some are in love with themselves, and others will never be heard. There is a place for all of us as artists with all our ideas, contributions, prejudices/preferences, and self-indulgences. James really loves Bob Dylan and Matt wouldn't give a breath in his sleep for him. So what.
Sounds Like
a home recording. The live stuff transfers the energy better but might loose some of the extra instrumentation.
James Dunn and the Western Set is a guy, his ideas, and whatever friends he can con into putting it all together. The current project, "Plan B," is a collection of songs from the last 7-8 years. Some of the songs started on a Tascam portastudio and were graduated to ADAT machines. To finish them they were converted to a devil computer and are awaiting mastering. Upcoming albumns include, "Alaska," and "Phazer ala Prog Country," which are written and need to be recorded (hopefully with some great equpment and engineers).
