Bio
James wears many hats, all of which cover a shaved head. The hats include clarinetist, composer, educator, liturgical musician, husband, father of three, bread baker . . . sojourner. He writes music for many of his own ensembles and has documented a good deal of this work on recordings. He also composes for groups that commission him for new works and wearing this latter hat he has written for choirs, orchestras, films, solo piano, small chamber ensembles, clarinet duo, and a children's opera based on the French medieval epic Le Chanson de Roland. You might say he is trying to see how life sounds when he's wearing all these hats at once. Sometimes he gets tired of talking about it.
