Talk of the towns,is a special chain gang Myspace community/network webvideo project, created via friends contributions/cooperations webvideo series
With an afternoon chat with friend Kelv in Hereford Verden Allen (keyboards with Mott the Hoople) remembers Jim, pre-fame bands The Cheeks, The Hawks and Colt. Also kindly dusted off his scrapbook and scanned in lots of photos etc which are also included. Mentions Mott the Hoople last August 2008 when this was recorded! Speculating of a possible Mott the Hoople reunion then.. Well those concerts dates have recently been organised and released. I have also been lucky to be able to include now with this update, more kindly donated material, being some very rare photo's taken at the one and only hometown original Pretenders gig held at Herefords Technical College Midlands Hereford Uk in approx 1978-79
(Does anyone know the exact date of that gig?)
Verden Allen the same day continues chatting with friends in Hereford Uk, Kelv, Andrew, and Kelvin who also is a former member of Cheeks Hawks Colt. Sadly the cams used on the day were not repo on this! You live and learn huh?
Probably Jims first live performance, kindly narrated by Andrew who was once a school days/teenage friend of Jim's Also includes (The Stoke Edith cassette tapes) Kindly donated by Al, Here a young Jim speaks, introducing a couple of licks and plays guitar (untitled) whilst taking a look around this lovely Herefordshire village where these cassette tapes used now as soundtrack were once recorded by Jim and his friend Tom!
Moving now some miles outside Hereford to a nearby town called Ross on Wye.. Kindly narrated by James who mentions more early prefame local band connections with Martin Chambers, Pete Farndon, and a very young James Honeyman Scott etc. Well you may have heard about this special webvideo series being made?...Well here it is all friends now complete to date and on display here at last!..Was about 2 years in the making despite being a very simple presentation..
Willing to continue..SO HOW CAN WE START PART 5 ANYONE????

"Quiet The Music" is another way of saying "stop and smell the roses"...We sometimes forget to express our feelings toward loved ones or look at a sunrise or just enjoy the world surrounding us. Our lives are fragile at best...and we tend too take so much for granted. Many thanks to Ken for his work on the video. Thanks to "fast fingers" Rob, for great guitar work....and special thanks to James Honeyman Scott, a talent much too young to lose.
Quiet The Music...
Sometimes, when you listen hard enough
you can hear.. whispers in the dark
Sometimes, when you look hard enough
you can see the message in the stars.
I know where rainbows hide..
come float, float with me in the clouds.
And touch... touch blue sky
hold on and float in my arms.
Sun, let the sunshine in
let the sun shine in your hair..
and float...float with me
I'll be there.
Thanks "Honeyman"
Back to the music....crank it up.
Peace.

Thanks for the add - it's great to be here. I saw the Pretenders this spring at the Orpheum in Boston, MA. It was a touching night for me as I had not seen them live since seeing JHS and the band in January of 1982 in the very same hall. I remember Peter Farndon was drinking Jack Daniels straight out of the bottle and Martin Chambers was "shooting" at Peter and JHS with drumsticks by letting them go after he hit the snare. I also remember someone taking a photograph of Chrissy Hyndes from up close and she got very angry, yelling and swearing. That was some straight-up, raw rock and roll. That show is still one of the best I've been to and I've seen a hell of a lot of live music since those days. I remember going to work the day after I heard of his death. I was only 17 and I wore a black and white Pretender's pin on my shirt in memory of JHS (and in violation of the store policy). A lot of people asked me about the pin that day and I remember telling them that we'd lost one of the great ones. Pretenders I holds up, IMO, as one of the best rock and roll albums.
Thanks so much for setting this page up and bringing back such wonderful memories for me and everyone else.

Yeah hearing Private Life from a live-session means respect for Jimmy Honeyman-Scott and Pete Farndon it's a real masterpiece of 7 minutes and 13 seconds with Martin Chambers and of course Chrissie Hynde...the guitar-work is solid and excellent...razor-sharp... so it's true great music live forever.
