Books
Anything by M. Scott Peck, Henri Nouwen, Kathleen Norris, Annie Dillard, Anne Lamott, Barack Obama, Emil Brunner, Dr. Suess, Shel Silverstein, Eugene Peterson, John Ortberg, Daniel Goleman, Thomas Cahill, Philip Yancey, Rowan Williams, Richard Rohr, Brennan Manning, Harold Ivan Smith, C. S. Lewis, Brian McLaren, Thomas Merton, Pope John Paul II, Al Gore, Mother Teresa, Martin Buber, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Og Mandino, Frederick Buechner, Teilhard de Chardin, Jim Palmer or Doris Kearns Goodwin. Classics such as The Odyssey by Homer, Moby Dick by Herman Melville, Walden by Henry David Thoreau and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain. I like to occasionally improve my use of the English language by reading poetry such as Edgar Allan Poe aloud or reading some Ernest Hemingway or F. Scott Fitzgerald. I like to listen to a deep, resonate voice reading aloud The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran. Stephen Covey has helped me with time management, Andrew Weil and Barry Sears with health, Byron Katie and the Tao te Ching to "go with the flow," and Ev Worthington on forgiveness. Books I'm often recommending: Senator John Danforth's Faith and Politics: How the "Moral Values" Debate Divides America and How to Move Forward Together, Immaculee Ilibagiza's Left to Tell, Divine Nobodies by Jim Palmer, and The Shack by W. P. Young. I love Shane Claiborne's Irresistible Revolution, Brian McLaren's Everything Must Change and just about every book or article by Jim Wallis. Systematic Theology: Ethics by James William McClendon, Jr. is delightful. I'm a ravenous consumer of the news on the Internet: MSNBC, CNN, New York Times (I'd love to subscribe to their Sunday paper, and they have great online video reports), BBCNews, ABCNews, CBSNews, LATimes, SFGate, Chron.com, Washingtonpost.com, etc., as well as a perusal of blogs from the emergent/emerging church. I also love to watch the brilliant thinking going on with the TED videos on the Internet. The ultimate relaxation is to read old articles of Rolling Stone magazine.

About me: Relationship-oriented, hope-filled, joyful, loving, peaceful, persevering person with an eye on the big picture of God working in God's world.
Through God's healing in my life I point people toward healing through individual and couples counseling, single adult events, Bible studies, divorce recovery workshop, marriage enrichment, premarital education and grief support.
Four of our children have high school degrees by way of Tates Creek High School. One is a graduate of Lexington Community College and the University of Virginia, attending Louisville Presbyterian Seminary, and recently completed a class in South Africa about racial reconciliation. One is an alum of Mission Year in Atlanta and now cares for an individual with a debilitating disease. One works for the largest coffee house in the state and lives near the campus of Bluegrass Community and Technical College where she attends college. One followed the example of Lisa Simpson by playing saxophone at Tates Creek, and has a little coffee house experience himself. All of us are welcomed enthusiastically every time we walk in the door by a handsome German shepherd/husky (Oscar) and a beautiful Siberian husky (Kita).
My amazing wife, after experiencing God's healing in her life, worked at a law firm in the benefits department, then dedicated eight months of her life to stay home and take care of my sick dad. She and I work together to keep him in medication and doctor's visits.
Our lives flow often around the community known as Immanuel. Since we've experienced the healing of God in many ways, we want to share the light of hope with others. The Jesus of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John is the focus of my faith. I want that Jesus to guide everything I do and enlighten all the people I touch, connecting all people to his love. The Paul who advocated a radical life of grace and Spirit, free from the Law, informs my approach to life and ministry. I want to consume and live every moment of my life mindfully for my own sake as well as for the well being of others. Life is a journey. Travel light. Trust the One who calls you.

it doesn't matter who someone was in their past; what truly matters is who they are today and what they are now doing with their lives. Too many times people only want to base a person's life on the past they once lived and too many times they only choose to remember the negative events that happened in a person's life. But if they really took the time to see the person for who they are today, then they would realize that sometimes it's those negative events that happen in our lives that help us to change and grow more as we begin a new life and leave the old one behind.

May a song of thanksgiving resound in your heart daily as you sing praises daily to our LORD God Almighty! I hope that you have a blessed Thanksgiving day as we set aside a special day to count our blessings and give thanks to our wonderful Heavenly Father for the abundant grace, love and blessings He has showered upon us!
Dear Rafiki, It's after Halloween and the busy holidays are approaching. Take a break and drop by to listen to my featured songs. You may find my music to be just the calm you need during this hectic time of the year. I appreciate your friendship and I hope you enjoy the music. I wish you much joy and peace.
May today there be peace within.
May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be..
May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith.
May you use those gifts that you have received,
and pass on the love that has been given to you.
May you be content knowing you are a child of God.
Let this presence settle into your bones,
and allow your soul the freedom to sing,
Dance, praise and love.
It is there for each and every one of us.
May you count your blessings as many and know that you are thought of and loved today and every day. God bless you and have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. Sue
I am stopping by to say "hi" and to remind you that in addition to MySpace, you can visit with me on Twitter and Facebook. I also have a personal blog on StockValues.
I write mostly about farming/gardening and stock/bond investing, but also anything else that rattles my cage. Please stop by when you get a chance.
