My brothers and dad, all of whom play music. Coldplay, Buddy Holly, Bob Dylan, The Mew, and The Decemberists. All the artists that turned their backs on the frivilous pop culture that has made a mockery of music.
James Mathis is a promising 17 year old musician based in Charlotte, North Carolina who plays original folk-oriented music. His influences include HEM, Bob Dylan, Elvis Costello, and Amos Lee, to name a few. His lyrics are predominantly based upon his own life experiences. His musical philosophy is to base his songs upon his own personal truths.
James is self- taught on the guitar and has been playing this instrument for about a year now. He also took lessons for the violin and piano for about 6 years before deciding to abandon lessons and devote himself to playing by ear and writing his own compositions. This decision has resulted in the unique compositions which reflect American roots music at its finest. His musical journey has now brought him together with some amazing teenaged musicians that have joined him in his latest group, "The Summer Snow". He hopes that he relates to people through his music and that through that relation, he and his group will go places they never dreamed of.
