IT'S ALIVE!!! The long-awaited CD release by BUG, titled "Murmur" is now available for purchase, directly from www.bugtet.com or CD Baby. Features all original compositions by James & Jeff Miley, recorded live in the studio at Cuesta College during the band's Fall 2006 World Domination Tour.
Thanks for all your support.
James Miley, recipient of the IAJE/Gil Evans Fellowship in Jazz Composition, is currently Director of Jazz Studies at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA, where he directs the VT Jazz Orchestra, teaches music theory and composition and coordinates the small jazz ensemble program. His music has been featured in performances at Carnegie Hall, the Monterey Jazz Festival, the International Jazz Composers Symposium, the Reno Jazz Festival, the International Association for Jazz Education's Annual Conference, and by many of the nation's finest college and high school jazz ensembles. Recent commissions include works for the James Logan Wind Symphony, the Monterey Jazz Festival, the Kandinsky Trio and the California All State Honor Jazz Band. Miley earned his doctorate in composition and jazz studies from the University of Oregon, with stops at Occidental College, the University of Arizona and CalArts along the way.
In addition to his duties in the music department at Virginia Tech, James' current musical endeavors include bug (featuring Peter Epstein, saxophones; Brian Hamada, drums; Jeff Miley, guitars; and Roger Shew, bass) whose debut CD, Murmur is now available for sale through the band website or CD Baby. He has a pronounced weakness for chocolate sauce and smoked salmon (though not together... yet), can never have too much cowbell, knows the first and last names of all the main characters on Saved By The Bell, and following lengthy counseling, now freely admits to purchasing a Wang Chung record by choice in 1986.

wow, it's been 20 years. nice to hear some of your music again, I still have those Cuesta Jazz Band CD's with some of your tunes on them. I'm buying your guys' Murmur album, but do you have anything with more of your big band stuff? The arranging/layers are awesome.
Hey James, Andrew and I caught your bro last weekend playing with Aaron Wolf and Inga Swearingen. It was a great concert. Hope the fam. is doing well. Ciao!
Hey my brother, I'm getting spoiled getting to hang out with you two weeks in a row! Reno was cool. And playing with you and John in VA the week before (and of course getting to see family) was super super great! As always, you deliver with more great compositions and more pianistic coolness. Hope you had a good flight home and I'm looking forward to next time.
You'll be in Reno this weekend but I can't be there! :-( Somewhere in the 'spirit' of Reno you'll find me. At least I can always find you on here...and those VTech kids better still be treating you right.
Thanks for the add, and for checking out my music! Be sure to stop by some of the links on my page to hear more of the album, leave comments, or write reviews. I appreciate your ears -- thanks for listening! -- GM
Oi! Hope all is well! Andrew says you are going to Reno in the spring. That should be fun. He and Brian Landsone are playing in a combo together. They are both sounding pretty doog. Peace!
