James Owen Fender might be the new boy on the musical block, but at just 25 years old he’s got a bundle of songs full of catchy hooks that are currently getting everyone excited about this talented newcomer.
His influences are drawn from far and wide. Musically they are as diverse as the clash, bill withers and tom waits – while err…other things that influence him include Leeds united and ‘pretty pretty girls’!
Born and raised in Leeds, James relocated to London aged 17 in search of musical success. Having played in his group project, the tarka groove experiment since the age of 16, in summer 2007, he decided to go it alone and concentrate on solo material.
James started writing music in his early teens and support slots with the wombats, cage the elephant, manchester orchestra and cold war kids have allowed him to perfect his skills at playing live, ensuring he provides audiences with an exciting and irreverent show.
He is currently recording his debut album, and his primary concern is that his debut long player will stand the test of time. Having worked on it with legendary producer Jerry Finn (rancid, Morrissey, tiger army) and currently with Martin Terefe (Ron Sexsmith, Martha Wainwright, Cat Stevens), something tells us it most certainly will.
