3 New York-based misfits and outsiders whose innovative brand of sunken-groove white collar gangsta elektro-lounge has opened up a new window on contemporary music. JBT came about totally by chance and good fortune. Windowpane was doing his trademark all-vinyl DJ gig in August '06 in Fulham, London at ' Tripsichord'--a weekly moveable feast. In the midst of one of his patented mixes of deeply obscure US. R&B/Soul and '75-'85 Uptown London Reggae and Crucial Dub, keyboardist Dolemite Turner approached our mixmeister with a request for 'Soul Makossa' by Afrique (which W.Pane had indeed brought to the gig !). Pane was so impressed by Turner that an instant mutual bond was formed. The following eve found the two at Paradise Studios in Camden Lock and the basis of 'California' was laid down. "It was entirely smokin"recalls Turner. The dub version 'Licensed to Kill' was then concocted back in Gotham with the help of the supremely mysterious 'Flying Dutchman' who had played bass guitar for legendary Velvet Underground founding member John Cale over two albums and three years of touring. To round out our trio, Roberto Ulysses Trippen was stolen away from Newark-based outfit Brothers From Anotha Planet and is considered 'too pretty' to discuss at further length !
