My name is Jamie Cruickshank, a 16-year-old singer/songwriter from Bristol. I started playing guitar when I was left one by my uncle at 6 years old. I got into my band, Newcut at 11, when I started writing music. My first influences were Hendrix, Syd Barrett, Robert Wyatt and the early White Stripes. I first got into acoustic when my dad’s friend introduced me to Magnet’s album "On Your Side". With that album something clicked. That way the whole of the music is your own, but everytime you play it, something changes. These recordings are just ideas of what the song could be. I got into Elliott Smith, M. Ward, Iron and Wine, Nick Drake as well as further into my original influences, especially the Soft Machine and Syd Barrett. At WOMAD 2005 I played the open mic competition and won, winning a slot at WOMAD 2006. I started writing songs about everything I could think of: the guy at the top of Park Street who plays the penny whistle, girls, and ’nature and shit’.
I am currently focussing on my band, The Go Pogs but am still writing profusely and improving my technical abilities on the guitar.
