Blurbs

About me:

Freelance photographer, club and rave-attendee, art-school dropout, aspiring make-up artist.

I'm primarily an event photographer, but I've shot weddings, sports, portraits, editorials, and what have you.

My style is highly inluenced by journalistic, street, commercial, and high fashion photography, and intend to one day establish myself as a primarily commercial photographer.

I've had work featured in (in no particular order) Eye Weekly, NOW Magazine, XTRA!, Toronto Life, The Excalibur, The Eyeopener, and on countless blogs and websites.

Check out some of my work at Http://www.jammcat.com

My favourite photographers are, in no particular order: Diane Arbus, Lisette Model, Ansel Adams, Cindy Sherman, David LaChapelle, Annie Leibovitz, Miwa Yanagi, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Eddie Adams, Dave Hill, Robert Mapplethorpe, Arthur Leipzig, Alfred Steiglitz, and Andrzej Dragan.

[Cue old, outdated user "about me" section]

[Disclosure] You'll never be completely certain about who I am, even if you know me for years. While I do not ever change, I reveal myself in layers.. Most people will have a difficult time finding out things like my age, my past, and my beliefs. To judge me by my appearance or by my demeanour is to throw yourself off before ever even coming close to understanding who I am.

I am oft considered to be deranged. To say "let's leave it at that" would be a sorry attempt to make some sort of statement which would not go anywhere.

I'm a Vegan.

I've presently got 12 piercings in, a 13'th retired.

I am a musician. I'm a Celtic rocker and a high fantasy buff. I play several instruments, and practice throatsinging as well. I'm also highly of the artistic/creative mindset, and love making things, regardless of the medium.

I enjoy messing with people's heads.
I enjoy messing with people's energies.
I enjoy driving people absolutely batty.

I do love good friends, "hanging out", and just generally having a nice time. I am the type of person who can just sit and talk for hours, regardless of the time or location.
Most of my life has been spent giving to people, without recieving anything in return.
Apparently I'm a "nice guy", but I don't see it. A past, blatant disregard/ abuse of my good intentions by someone close to me has caused me to be.. quite spiteful. I now find means of empowering myself in friendships, never again to allow someone to walk all over me. Once empowered, I can very easily manipulate the strings, and if wronged, shall enact retribution. Don't let that worry you, though. I'm very easy-going most of the time, and am quick to forgive.
If you get to know me, you might even enjoy talking to me. Who knows? ;)

    Music.

Instruments: Flutes (traditional wooden and modern Boehm system), Great Highland Bagpipes, Whistles (ie. tinwhistles), Bass Guitar, Mandolin. I used to play weekly pubsessions and Ceilidhs at Dora Keogh's (Broadview and Danforth).

Singing: I used to be a tenor, but then started throatsinging and it knocked me down to a baritone, then a double-baritone. I'm in the process of recovering my range. I enjoy old-style choral singing and jazz and obviously throatsinging. There's also some fun pop to be sung. I had a classical-rock singing phase a few years ago.

Drawing: Pencils, Pens, and Computer via. mouse. I used to draw my own comic book a long time ago. :D

Painting: Canvas and Computer via mouse.

Reading: Manga, Fantasy, Fiction, Fanfiction, Classical literature.

Writing: I write poetry and short stories on occasion.

Anime and Manga: Great Teacher Onizuka, Astro Boy, Ranma 1/2, Fuushigi Yuugi, Rurouni Kenshin, Fruits Basket, Gravitation, Love Hina, Trigun, Alien 9, etc.

Drum Circle: It used to be wonderful when it was at Trinity Bellwoods... I now attend Drummers In Exile @ The Kathdral/Big Bop (Queen and Bathurst) every Tuesday. The old Trinity crowd is there, and its an awesome, chilled environment.

Rocky Horror: I go every month, and take hundreds of pictures. :)

Martial arts: Judo, Kendo, White Crane, Pressure point application.

Skateboarding, Biking, Rollerblading, Running, Lasertag, attending concerts, operas, and recitals, Hanging out downtown (I'm talking Bloor, Queen, Yonge, Spadina, Kensington Market, The Village, etc.), Spending times with friends(which I need to brush up upon), Good conversations, Karaoke, Livejournal, Deviantart, DANCE DANCE REVOLUTION, Makeup Artistry,

Schools

Networking

  • Celtic, Acid Jazz.. Think Jethro Tull, and anything traditionally irish or Scottish. Also, I've been known to play the Chinese Dizu, Native American Flute, and Tinwhistle.

  • Throatsinging. That is, deep, polyphonic singing that is overtone based, to the extent that I can sound like a didgeridoo without having one handy. It makes for killer background noise in any genre of music; electronic and drumming esp.

Hey, you know that song from the Who's Tommy?

"I got the feelin twenty-one is gonna be a good year
Especially if you and me see it in together
I have no reason to be over-optimistic
But somehow when you smile, I can brave bad weather"

I'magonna change the word "year" to "month".
