About me:
Poet/painter/teaching artist. You can find my musical collaboration with Gregg Yeti at www.myspace.com/thesuddenlynervous I've appeared in The November 3rd Club, The Comstock Review, and Valley of the Contemporary Poets. I've featured (and distributed copious hugs) at such venues as Two Idiots Peddling Poetry (Orange, CA) Word Dancing (Newark, Delaware) and GotPoetry Live (Providence, RI). I have a degree in Art History from Syracuse University. I paint ridiculously optimistic paintings and occasionally show them.I meditate twice a day but I'm still pretty anxious. "Anger and sorrow and depression are beautiful things in a story, but they're like poison to the filmmaker or artist. They're like a vice grip on creativity. If you're in that grip, you can hardly get out of bed, much less experience the flow of creativity and ideas. You must have clarity to create. You have to be able to catch ideas."-David Lynch.
Who I'd like to meet:
Writers, artsy types, people who live where they live. People who honestly want to tell me how their lives are going, or talk about Lost, or both. Send/post poems, I'll read 'em.

hey Jane, how are ya?

Dorothy Wilcox is hosting a Poetry Open Mic starting Tuesday, April 1st at The Metro Lounge(505 Westcott St). It starts at 7pm. She doesn't have access to myspace and asked me to do some promotion.

If you wanna show up, that'd be great. And if you could post a bulletin for all the poets out there, it'd be much appreciated.

also, I should be at the DWC on March 31st. hope you're great

Knowing your affinity for poetry, I thought you would like this:

This is a short poem made up entirely of actual quotations from George
W. Bush. These have been arranged, only for aesthetic purposes, by
Washington Post writer, Richard Thompson. A wonderful poem like this is too good not to share.

MAKE THE PIE HIGHER

I think we all agree the past is over.
This is still a dangerous world.
It's a world of manmen and uncertainty
And potential mental losses.

Rarely is the question asked
Is our children learning?
Will the highways of the Internet
Become more few?

How many hands have I shaked?
They misunderestimate me.
I am a pitbull on the pantleg of opportunity.

I know that the human being
And the fish can coexist.
Families is where our nation finds hope,
Where our wings take dream.

Put food on your family!
Knock down the tollbooth!
Vulcanize society!
Make the pie higher!
I am the Decider!
Aly

This Friday, September 21st, Syracuse Public Arts will be participating in National PARK(ing) Day. PARK(ing) is performance art that utilizes juxtaposition to make us re-think how we use space in our cities. Syracuse Public Arts will rent a parking spot Downtown for the two hour duration. However, instead of using the space to store a car, our PARK(ing) spot will contain grass, trees, shrubs, and a sitting space. We will convert the asphalt and concrete into an urban oasis.

This is part of the second annual National PARK(ing) Day, which is drawing interest from public space advocates across the county. Boston, New York City, Miami, San Diego and Seattle are five of the thirty cities across the county that have signed up for the event, and more are likely to participate.

We will be installing our PARK(ing) spot at 7:30AM Friday. The installation will move to a new spot at 9:30AM, 11:30AM, 1:30PM and 3:30PM in accordance with local parking laws. While our installation is mobile, we intend to remain on the 300 Block of South Salina Street throughout the day. The installation will be dismantled at 5:30PM and will be reconstructed in front of The Gear Factory (200 South Geddes Street) at 6PM. A celebration of the installation will occur there for all the volunteers who assisted on the project throughout the day.

Syracuse Public Arts encourages everyone to stop by our PARK(ing) installation. Relax and bring a book during lunch or a guitar. Enjoy the shade and grass, but most importantly please take a serious look at how we use the space of our public right-of-way.

If you would like more information about National PARK(ing) Day, visit The Trust for Public Land’s website www.tpl.org.
