i can't STAND my own bio, so i'm posting an interview i did after Kollaboration's Acoustic Show. 8/2/08. questions by Alice K of Pacific Time.
1. How did you feel when you heard the presenter announce you as the first place winner?
I replayed his words 17 times in my head in one second. I wanted to slap myself awake, but in case I was already awake, that would just be embarrassing. So, to my own surprise, I did the beauty pageant thing, freaking out and putting my hands over my mouth, which was REALLY the only thing I could think of. In all seriousness, I was standing in the back of the crowd already content with the evening: the talent was fierce, and I had bet on Lady Danville being first prize, since their performance & songwriting were polished. I teared up a little. I had 10 bucks ~ now I have $1010.00.
2. What are your future plans on furthering your music career? Will be releasing another CD, or touring around the country?
Nah, that's it. I'm done.
Just kidding: I'm touring east coast and a little bit through Ottawa, Canada this fall with my friend Greg Friedman, a fantastic guy in addition to being a great songwriter. I'll always frequently tour west coast and hope to hop over to europe next year some time. I just moved into San Francisco 3 weeks ago. There's been so much happening already that I'm doing interviews/bookings on a daily basis. Getting on the road is my number one right now, as I have two records out already and am writing my 3rd. Problem is I'm not emotionally suffering much these days, so it's been harder to channel. :)
3. Did you have other careers that are different from what you do now?
I'm a closet choir conductor - my music degree had emphasis in choral conducting. I don't use that part of my degree very often, but I do freelance piano accompaniment. Accompanying others is how I learned to play under my own voice...accompaniment is an entire artform unto itself. On the side, I also collect dust bunnies, frayed toothbrushes, bus transfers, polaroids, and cigarette butts. Not a steady career, kids. Stay in school.
4. What ethnicity are you (Korean, Chinese, etc.)?
99% Made in China. 1% African Spandex. What?

The first time we saw Jane play, she was on stage with Dustin Shey, performing a rendition of The Postal Services Such Great Heights, using a 10-note marimba and a toy piano. And while her sexy, captivating voice does not reveal her quirky yet undeniably charming personality, her music does offer an ample view into the inner workings of her complex imagination. Janes new album, Teargirl, is rich with metaphor, capitalizing on stunning vocals to bring elements of fantasy to life through simple stories. In light of her first full-length, Jane launched an entire Web site dedicated to the album, where she provides fans with an up-close look at the concept behind each track, the challenges while recording and those who helped her bring it to life. Her explanations are certainly as eloquent as her craft. An absolute must-hear.

"Jane Lui may no longer be known as just "Jane," formerly of Jason and Jane, after the old acolytes hear her debut CD. Teargirl finds this seasoned neophyte knocking it out of the solo artist ballpark far enough to clear the wall into the bleachers, but not enough to put the excessive pressure of an unbeatable precedent on future efforts. In other words, it's just about as ideal a debut as it gets....." Troubadour, July 2005

Thanks for the add. I'm glad you posted Firefly as a video clip, because you have this incredible stage presence to go along with your beautiful selection of chords. If you get a chance, please listen to "The Thinking Song" on my page. I'm pleased with the lyrics, but I think it needs a different voice and a different interpretation, and I'd welcome your input.
