Influences
What, on thin earth, does NOT influence? Okay, enough of the crafty answers.... I can only speak for myself, but I'd say a key influence must be my over inflated sense of self importance... that or too many beers at least!
It was late last century in a purple room in Stoke that a band called anythingMAN formed. Tired and demoralised by the suicidal, low tempo indie dirge on the radio the band missed the good old days of the early 90’s… And so the band was formed, hell-bent on going against the contemporary; not just ripping off one band, but as many as possible… All they had to do was get some instruments and learn to play; but before any of that they wrote some songs and did some gigs anyway, with truly comical consequences.
If anything can be said about anythingMAN it was probably somewhere in the lyrics of a self explanatorily song entitled Drunk In The Street, though somewhat better would have been Drunk At The Gig methinks.
Perseverance is a powerful thing though and after a year or so the band finally leant how to play and sing together like a “proper” band, so they wrote a whole bunch of new tunes and changed their name to the DELAY. With a newfound confidence and skill, the band looked set to take over not just the world, but the whole of Stoke-on-Trent as well. And then, oh and then, disaster struck….
The bassist left to record a solo bass album (not really) and the band were back to square one, which was nice, but a little square. Never ones to take the easy route they dropped every song and started again as a 3 piece, bAZ moved to Brighton, which didn’t make rehearsals too easy and for the final time they changed their name… and so ladies and gents, jANES wAY were finally born.
After a few years of sheer laziness the band are now set to return to the scene with more recordings, more free music for the world, more gigs and well more more, well, just more actually.
Enjoy the music, download it, pass it on if you like (just be sure people know who we are) and if you can, get yourself to a gig….
Peace, bAZ.
