Janette Slack - from breakthrough young spark to fully fledged rising star.
In a very short space of time, Janette Slack has established herself as one of the hottest artists around. Based in London, her sound is rooted in electro, house and breaks which she delivers with an infectious energy.
This year alone, Janette’s played Global Gathering, rocked clubs from Australia to Croatia, been featured in The Observer, presented for Channel V (Asia’s MTV equivalent), appeared in multi-page fashion shoots, and featured a guest mix and interview on Radio 1. Most excitingly she’s returned to the studio, and come up trumps with her new single for Air Recordings, ‘Take It/’Around The Block’.
One of dance music’s most charismatic young figures – London clubbers will be familiar with her turning up to gigs on her infamous roller-skates – Janette is a breath of fresh air in the somewhat character-less vacuum of the current club scene (you can still find Doug ‘Scratch’ Pray’s short film about her online).
A resident for both Air at Cargo and fetish event, Torture Garden, she’s renowned for her energetic, electro-filled DJ sets that defy even the most pigeon-hole obsessed muso. Musically, her productions circle the same waters.
Her previous releases have caught the attention of DJs such as Carl Cox, Stanton Warriors, and Jay Cunning. One of her last cuts for Air, ‘Red Ramona’, was equally well received, making an appearance in the highly respected Cool Cuts Chart in Music Week.
New missive, ‘Take It’, is a 4/4, bass heavy stomp complete with a Torture Garden-friendly vocal… ‘Around The Block’ leans towards her beats-friendly side, no less energetic, it moves from jump-up breaks into a sublimely beautiful piano breakdown with progressive leanings. With support from Utah Saints and magazines such as IDJ, Knowlegde and Mixmag.
Meanwhile her journalistic commitments include writing her regular blog for DJ Download and continuing her role as a part time journalist for Mixmag. Catch her while you can…..
