Steadily rising to international superstardom, Electronica songstress Janid (jah-NEED) has been an amazing vocal talent from the first time she stepped into the music scene back in 2005. Her incredible voice and singing ability have appeared on projects with Frankie Cutlass, movie soundtracks, television and radio commercials and is the Spanish language voice on 1-800-JETBLUE. Now with her third album, the New York based veteran singer-songwriter proves to be one of the few artists who consistently delivers a fresh sound with an optimistic perspective. She charms her audiences with infectiously catchy hooks and distinctively enchanting vocals, while remaining balanced in the reality and rawness of the female human emotion. Her magnetic persona and charisma captures the hearts of thousands of fans, critics and peers from around the globe as she continues to push the envelope, raise the bar and inspire.
Growing up in Puerto Rico, Janid was always a performer. She recalls, "Even though we were poor, my mom somehow managed to put me in ballet, jazz dancing, belly dancing, modeling, singing lessons and private school, where I joined my first choir. After graduating college, I spent long hours after work and during the weekends in the recording studio singing jingles, radio station IDs and co-writing and providing vocals for major label artist demos."
It was while working on one of these demos in 2003, that she met producer Kaydean. He produced several songs for her which were featured in the Puerto Rican mini-series "El Ultimo Caso del Detective Prado". Shortly thereafter, Kaydean convinced her to move to NY and begin recording her solo album.
Her debut Goddess was released on the Dead Ninja Records label in 2006. Goddess went on to earn her 4 Stars on Amazon.com, 4 Stars on VH1.com and the CNet Editor's Pick for Brown Eyed Soul Artist award. Later that year she was voted New York's Sexiest Latina by Farandulife Magazine. By the release of her second CD entitled ONE, Janid was performing at sold out shows and festivals around the country, had landed an endorsement deal with PR'z Fynest clothing line, a new record deal with Zonisphere Records, and her first movie role in the 5.2 Films motion picture "Bare Knucklez".
After her performance at the "Welcome Back From Iraq concert" in 2008, Janid say about taking a much needed six-week vacation: "I needed to sort myself out, do some soul searching and really think about where I wanted to go next. I felt confined in the R&B game and my creativity was limited by the nature of the genre. I had a need to experiment, create a fresh, crazy sound and unleash the artist that had been hiding behind the manufactured, sexy, glamorous cliche that industry has been pushing for years."
With her third CD "Twisted", Janid unveils a new look, a new sound in what is being labeled as her best work to date. Produced once again by Kaydean, Twisted captures Janid's new edgy persona and distinctive vocals and delivers an unexpected explosion of new, futuristic sounds, captivating melodies and remarkable lyrics. The title track "Twisted" brilliantly conveys Janid's transformation describing herself as vicious, wicked, and deranged while stating "this good girl has gone bad". It debuted on Italian radio on March 10, 2009 and received rave reviews from fans, DJs and critics worldwide. Also on the CD is the loungy "Red Velvet Curtains," in which Janid delivers a flawless, and vulnerably charming vocal performance as she describes her struggle trying to blend "with the rest of the phony crowd." On the dark and experimental "Sacrilegious," Janid combines Christianity with Paganism in a spellbinding Spanish track which really shows Janid's range of vocal stylings.
Once again, Janid reveals herself to be a fearless chameleon, displaying multiple personalities and moods from the beginning to the end of this continuous-play album that's sure to continue her ascent into stardom.
