Sounds Like
Hot, sweaty, bluesy punk rock and roll with a cowboy's heart, a surfer's gut and an indie-rocker's mind. Like Jon Spencer Blues Explosion but with a double dose of Midwestern psycho-punk a la MC5/Stooges. Billy Bisson is reportedly a wild man on stage ("Joe Cocker on acid imitating James Brown looking like Jim Morrison singing like Danzig") and his dangerous charisma comes across strong. Oodles of cool guitar sounds from Dave Feirn and tough, greasy bass by Chris Coyne and the pounding throbbing drums by the marvelously monikered Chachi Darin.
For fans of rock music that revels in the power of the Basics, Janis Figure delivers. Their straight ahead brand of Rock and Roll is seeing a revival of late generating interest with the Rock n Roll buying public. Janis Figure fulfills that gritty mixture with the guts, spirit, style and fashion of a 70's throwback. A national touring band, Janis Figure has hit major cities throughout all of North America performing rock with teeth and a live show that destroys all in it's path. The band continues to stick to its founding formula, bucking the trends that are finally catching up to its vision.
Janis Figure released their first cd, Transformer, on Flak Records. After catching the eye and attention of Bill Stevenson (The Descendents, Black Flag, ALL) they put out their second cd, Damage Control, on Stevenson's label, Owned and Operated.
Janis Figure to Release New CD and Documentary DVD
After a year-long hiatus, the band returns for it's third release
that includes a documentary featuring Twin Peaks star Chris Mulkey
Minneapolis (May 4, 2004) -The Legend Of Janis Figure. After eight years, touring the country and building a reputation as a powerful rock and roll machine, Janis Figure has endured its share of ups and downs. But nothing compares to the turmoil of the past year. In May 2003, front man Billy Bisson suffered a string of seizures that led to a burst blood vessel in his brain. Miraculously, Bisson survived and didn't suffer brain damage, but was left with a persistent condition that requires him to undergo tests and medication.
The band's third full-length CD, "Throttled," was all but completed before Bisson's health troubles. It was recorded at bassist Chris Coyne's studio, Honker Room South, over late 2001-2003. During this time the band had been in talks with several record labels before deciding on a major independent distributed by Warner Bros.-only to have the label shut down just as the deal was finalized. Ultimately, with Janis Figure's future uncertain due to Bisson's health, the band decided to put the CD out themselves. Needless to say, the band feels that with "Throttled," they've reached a creative high point that reinforces their singular vision of rock and roll.
Included in the "Throttled" package is an exclusive DVD documentary film: "Janis Figure: Frankly, Seriously, Honestly." The 40-minute film captures the kinetic spirit of the band through actual footage and candid, often hilarious moments on the road, as well as reenacted scenes that relive amusing experiences not captured on video. The documentary is hosted and narrated by L.A.-based actor Chris Mulkey, a veteran of more than 80 films and TV appearances, including a starring role in the independent classic Patti Rocks and as Hank in David Lynch's Twin Peaks series.
In addition to the film, the DVD includes all of Janis Figure's videos (including a newly released animated video for the song "Hitchhiker's Holiday") and live footage of the band performing across the country.

I gotta say I saw you live in Sioux Falls back in 1999 and you fucking rocked!!! I bought transformer after the show. I am hoping you will be back in South Dakota soon so I can see you live again.
Several years ago, you guys played in Winnipeg at the Pyramid, and I bought a pair of underwear and took a picture of myself wearing them with your camera. Which is why I'm especially surprised to see you add me now... small world, small world.
