PAST HISTORY
In the mid 90’s, Janis was part of a boy-girl duo, ‘Janis & Jason’ which was signed to President Records. The group toured throughout the UK and had a number of releases - “Look What We’ve Started”, co-written and produced by Andy Whitmore at Greystoke Studios; “The Only Way is Up”, a cover version of the Yazz hit, produced by Red Rhythm & The Fallon Twins; and “Can U Feel the Nite”, co-written with ex-Blue Mercedes band member, Duncan Miller. At this time, Janis was co-managed by Simon Napier-Bell and had an independent publishing contract with BMG.
The duo performed at venues up and down the country including ‘Café de Paris’ and ‘Limelight’ in London’s West End as well as doing radio road shows with Heart and other regional stations. They developed a following amongst the gay community, singing at ‘Gay Pride’ and a number of gay venues in London. During this fun period the duo even found time to do a number of “under 18’s” nights in various clubs and schools where Janis’s bubbly personality combined with a ‘you can do it’ positive attitude provided inspiration to some of their younger fans. One year, ‘Janis & Jason’ were even to be found turning on the Christmas lights in Crawley! On television they appeared on ‘Nickelodeon’, ITV’s ‘Wakey, Wakey’ and ‘Men and Motors’.
In 1999, Janis decided that she wanted to pursue a solo career as a singer and a song-writer. She worked in Sweden and Los Angeles, writing and recording, including co-writing with Michael db the song, “Do You Really Want Me?” which went on to become a hit in Japan for Fatima Rainey on East West Records. During this period, Janis also worked with International DJ and Producer, Martjin ten Velden of Audio Drive.
As well as her singing and song-writing career, Janis has appeared in advertisements for Vodafone and Argos and most recently in the ‘Give Blood’ television campaign alongside Pete Waterman. This versatile performer has also been seen on ‘Eastenders’, ‘The Bill’, ‘Waking the Dead’ and ‘Casualty’.
