Janko Hanushevsky was born in Linz/Austria in 1978. At age five he started to play the cello and exchanged it for electric bass in 1994. He studied Jazzbass at the Conservatory of the City of Vienna from 1997-2002 and has been a student of Contrabassvirtuoso and composer PETER HERBERT. Since 2001 he has been exploring "EXTENDED TECHNIQUES", searching for different, unconventional ways of creating sounds on the electric bass. Janko has been playing numberless concerts in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Poland and Italy mainly in contemporary jazz and free improvised music. Janko composed music for radioart, radioplay and theatre, partly working live on stage as actor/musician and has been a regular member in various ensembles ranging from avant-jazz and New Music to Turkish world music. Since 2002 Janko has been working with EVA POEPPLEIN (electronics). As duo MERZOUGA they perform concerts of free improvised music and compose and produce ars acustica works and radioworks. Commissioned works include compositions a.o. for DEUTSCHLANDRADIO KULTUR, DEUTSCHLANDFUNK, MUENCHNER VOLKSTHEATER, schauspielfrankfurt and AKADEMIE MUSIKTHEATER HEUTE.

Janko Hanushevsky was born in Linz/Austria in 1978. At age five he started to play the cello and exchanged it for electric bass in 1994.
