A mixture of pop, dance, and classic female vocal styling defines Janyse (pronounced Jen-niece), the acclaimed Canadian singer-songwriter. But the true key to understanding Janyse is to get her inspirational message, one that she has lived out herself. Her new single, “Dreamers,” is a perfectly timed message. As Janyse puts it, “I wanted to write a song to help people stay motivated and inspired in these trying times, given the state of the economy. If you can keep your mind positive and focused, you can achieve your dreams.”
Over an Abba-esque arrangement (“They’re a huge influence of mine,” says Janyse), “Dreamers” showcases the power and range of Janyse’s voice. The choruses explode, and Janyse brilliantly links her message to the other great dreamers of the past, like Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The single has already achieved great acclaim, with a Best Song Nomination (Dance) in the Toronto Exclusive Magazine Awards. CBC Radio Toronto has said, ‘Dreamers’ is another hook-filled gem from Janyse, perhaps the finest Canadian vocalist who isn't yet - emphasis on ‘yet’ - a household name.”
Raised on a farm in Kelowna, British Columbia, and of Icelandic and French descent, Janyse had the opportunity to experience a variety of musical styles. From her parent’s jukebox blaring out rock n roll and country to the classical music absorbed from her piano and ballet lessons, Janyse’s influences are an amalgam of different artists and genres. “I’ve always been a big fan of great songwriters – such as the technique of Diane Warren, the humor of Shania Twain, and the lyrics of John Lennon. ABBA has also been an enormous influence on my music.”
Janyse is also one of the top cartoon voiceover artists in the world, working with Marvel Comics, the Cartoon Network and Hasbro, playing various characters. “What I’ve taken from that experience is that you can’t take life so seriously – you have to retain that childlike wonder and sense of fun.” Through her work in animation, she met children through the Make-A-Wish Foundation and became inspired to create a children’s CD to help kids, titled The Magic Of Think. “I called it The Magic Of Think because the premise is that you can think of something positively or negatively – it’s your choice. But by thinking positively and being persistent, you can and will achieve your dreams.” The album was an immediate hit with children and their parents. Janyse has also had several of her songs placed in Film and Television, including works starring Pamela Anderson, Dean Cain, Chad Allen, Sally Pressman and more.
The inspirational message of her new single, “Dreamers,” was taken from her own first hand experience, after being in a car accident. “The doctor told me that I could end up in a wheelchair, and that I should seriously consider changing careers,” she recounts. “None of the things he warned me of came to pass. I took care of myself and I recovered. It was from that I learned that a dream can be achieved and that sometimes, it’s just better to look at life in a humorous way.”
In terms of her music, her new single “Dreamers,” her outlook and her life experience itself, it’s more than obvious that Janyse has stayed on her mission – to inspire people through her music.
Janyse's album The Magic Of Christmas and her new children's album The Magic Of Think were both recently honored to be in the GRAMMY and Oscars celebrity gift bags.
An accomplished and award-winning vocal artist, Janyse is the voice of Lady Deathstrike in Hulk Vs. Wolverine, Hela in Hulk Vs. Thor, all female characters in Batman Motion Comics, Pinkie Pie in My Little Pony (Hasbro), Sarah & Lee Kanker in Kids Choice Awards Best Cartoon nominated Ed, Edd n Eddy (Cartoon Network), Kagura and Kanna in the hit series Inuyasha, Narrator of the Emmy Award winning series Adoption Stories (Alliance Atlantis Discovery), Cymbeline in Bratz (MGA), Melissa Duck in Baby Looney Tunes (Warner Bros) and the voice of Audience award winner Broken Saints at the Sundance Film Festival.
FILM & TV
Her original songs have recently been featured in Pamela Anderson’s new feature film “Blond & Blonder”, as well as the movies “Making Mr. Right” (Dean Cain), “On The Other Hand Death”, “Love Sick”, “All She Wants For Christmas” and the television series "Smart Cookies". In 2006, Janyse received the honor of being named one of four Finalists by the Song of the Year songwriting contest whose judges include the biggest names in music, such as Chris Brown, Fergie, Feist and Beyonce.

So.. My boyfriend wanted me to watch an anime he loves Fatal Fury. And as soon as I heard Panni. I said " THATS JANYSE!" He looked over oh your friend I said yep :). I liked it although the ending was sad.
Thank you for add'n me. I dig what you make, and I love your voice. Stomp is kewl and funny. Well, Once again, thanks for add'n me. Stay hyper, Janyse.
Sorry for bothering you again, I meant to ask if there was anything in the pipeline animation-wise that I should be looking out for? I heard you were going to be in Strawberry Shortcake, but IMDb seems to have all the credits as mixed up as ever, and has most of the old US voice actors names listed for the latest productions...so are you guys just going to be in all the DVDs from now on or just this new series I've heard about?
Also, there's a new My Little Pony DVD out in Autumn - Twinkle Wish Adventure? I know the animation style has changed, but I'm hoping that doesn't mean Hasbro have changed the voices too? Please tell me you're still going to be Pinkie Pie! :P
Sorry for all the questions - if you don't have a chance to answer I'll understand perfectly.
Keep well - I've heard the Swine Flu is supposed to be worse over there than it is here in the UK, and I've been worrying about it. But then don't I always worry about everything?!
Hi Janyse! Just stopping by again to say I've enjoyed your interview on blogtalkradio.com! lol You had so much fun, and it was great hearing you discuss your childhood and career.
But man, when you and the host did the various cartoon voices, I was rolling. One of the funniest interviews I've heard in a while.
Excellent interview Janyse, you're the greatest ever!
Hi Janyse! I must say, your new song is incredible!
This Day is Mine is my 2nd favorite song from the Magic of Think album. While listening to it, I've always thought it needed a remix. The song was so soothing, but at the same time, was on the brink of becoming a pure dance song.
The rhythm is amazing, and the remix beat helped polish the song. Well done Janyse and everyone behind the scenes!
Hi Janyse,
Thanx 4 being friends !!!
Have a nice day and enjoy the life!!!
