It has been one of the most powerful and biggest rock events in New York underground music scene. Not only featuring the best Japanese rock bands in the city, but also there are always special guest bands from Tokyo , Japan . This annual event has already held 5 times at CBGB`s (one canceled show for 09/11, 2001) and one in Tokyo since we started the event in 2000. There has been a considerable grow in the number of audiences, especially in non-Japanese, and we had a completely packed and past legal limit of 400 people at CBGB`s in the previous events. The feedbacks are always huge and growing with every event, and we have finally realized a big attention toward underground Japanese music scene by people of many background. Thus, we are really enthusiastic about introducing and exposing underground Japanese music scene to many people, especially for kids in next generations who supports NYC underground music scene. Last year we had a world-wide famous, charismatic garage Rock`n roll band GUITAR WOLF as a very, very special guest along with 4 famous major and Indie bands from Japan , featuring with the best and well-known NYC underground Japanese bands THE SPUNKS and PEELANDER-Z as an event host. JAPUNKS is not intending to limit a definition of “punk rock”… no one would be able to categorize all the bands just as so, only by their outstanding punk spirits!
