The Short of It:
All of the Above began as a duo of brothers and singer-songwriters (Jared and Evan Cechanowicz) in the Summer of 2002. Since then they have added another duo of brothers (Julien and Gaetan LePage), and are now touring as a four piece. As a band, All of the Above combines jam-band-style funk and rock rhythms, folk heart and soul, and harmonies like only brothers can sing.
Biography:
Simply put, All of the Above is folk with a kick. They combine carefully written narratives and singable melodies with danceable, funk and rock grooves. Punchy, coordinated bass and drums add an edgy assertiveness to smooth, melodic guitar lines and impassioned vocals. The result is a sound somewhere between Dave Matthews Band, Bedouin Soundclash and Barenaked Ladies. Their live show is spontaneous and energetic; literally a band of brothers, Jared and Evan Cechanowicz and Julien and Gaetan LePage have a built-in chemistry that you can immediately sense from the stage. Expect to be moved onto your feet, to want to sing along to every chorus, and to be taken to a time and place by their lyrics.
And their unique sound is already attracting attention:
"...AOTA have already begun to warrant their own page in the book of Sask music lore."
- Craig Silliphant, Planet S Magazine, July 2008
In June 2008, their single "This Car" shot to the top of the Saskatchewan Home Grown Top 30, a podcast where listener votes determine rankings, and in December 2008 "This Car" won the award for 2008 Single of the Year, beating out other well known Saskatchewan artists like Shawn Verrault, Theresa Sokyrka, Megan Lane and Tyler Lewis. All of the Above was also chosen as a featured artist for the 2008 Saskatoon Fringe Festival, and the 2008 Saskatoon Fireworks Festival.
All of the Above is currently recording their first full-length album, currently scheduled for release in Fall 2009.
